It is Time to Repeal and Replace Capitalism

The failure of capitalism is on display with the criminal greed being seen in our corporations and government. We wanted to re-post our thoughts on our broken economic system. The post originally appeared on September 7th, 2015.

What do we really celebrate on Labor Day? History says that the day started as a reaction to the Haymarket Massacre in 1886. The deaths in Chicago that day brought to light the struggles of workers nationwide. Demonstrators at Haymarket Square that day were rallying for an eight hour work day. When we go back and look at how the heads of capitalism treated their workers, who were US citizens, it is frightening. The labor movement needed to strike, rally, and demonstrate just so the capital owners would treat the workers like real humans. We celebrate Labor Day because workers needed to demand, and risk their safety, for a humanity that the capital owners were not willing to provide.

Capitalism is anti humanity and it is not allowing us to socially evolve, it is time for a new economic system. The people at the very top of our capitalistic society are large carnivores that get rewarded for anything that they can consume. There is no humanity to the capital owners. We celebrate record stock markets, and forget we have such a small volume of people participating in the market. We complain about welfare queens, without accepting that some of our richest CEOs get their salaries enhanced by government subsidies. The devourers at the top of the economic food chain have made the people below fearful and reverent at the same time. Capitalism is not allowing us to grow as humans, it is keeping us in cages like the animals that the capital owners need to control.

The way capitalism is sold to the general public is through use of code words like freedom and opportunity. In the world of today there is very little opportunity or freedom for the people not at the top of the capitalism food chain. The use of freedom and opportunity have their roots in trying to keep people non-empowered. If you want to go out and start your own business, you do have that freedom. If you have a great idea that can change the world, you have the opportunity to pursue that dream. Our modern capitalistic system does throw up every hurdle imaginable so the current capital owners have a say over your success. The system allows for the commoditization of people who can steal and exploit other people's work. The defenders of capitalism use opportunity and freedom as defenses for these patent trolls. Capitalism does not create ideas, it creates ways to steal great ideas and give them to the carnivores at the top.

The idea of commoditization has reached a truly dangerous level in our society. We have used capitalism to justify putting a price on the our most important human needs. Healthcare is one of our largest, and wealthiest, industries. We all accept that doctors should be well paid because of their skill and necessity. Our ability to get healthcare, through insurance, is directly related to our income. That is insane. Medical care is a necessity for everyone in the world, why should it be a commodity? Why do we not question this? Most doctors are not builders and creators, they are administrators. When you go to the doctor, it is for maintenance or to discuss something out side of the norm. Your income level rarely dictates the maintenance you require. Your income level can directly relate to the need for a doctor when there is something outside of norm. Lower income people have more severe, treatable, medical issues because of how capitalism financially elevates doctors. Basic human needs like healthcare are not a commodity. Capitalism has set a value to our lives, that is anti-humanity.

The ability to communicate has been the greatest tool for social evolution. The printing press created a new world filled with scientific and social advances. The internet is just getting its legs, and changing the entire world for the better. Many of the innovations related to communication were not done in pursuit of economic riches. The internet was created by the government, and nurtured by the social system, to become the tool we use today. The engineers of the world create things that not only maintain society, but allow it to grow. The Wright Brothers looked to the government for support before they looked to the capital owners. Roads, rails, and bridges are designed and built by engineers with government support, not private business support. Why is it that the government has allowed business to commoditize basic needs like communication? The rise of the telecom deregulation was another sacrifice at the idol of capitalism. We have been told that private business can handle our communication better than the government funded engineers who built the network. Our reward is one of the worst communication networks in the developed world. The telecom companies get their money, the CEOs get their large paydays, and the citizens get a subpar product thanks to the tenets of capitalism. The telecom companies do not have any concern for our ability to communicate, their concern is only to gain money. Our government, and our cultural programming, have allowed for basic communication to be another commodity to be bought and sold. Due to capitalism the more wealth you have, the better communication available.

Capitalism is a wall that stops innovation. The ability to create a commodity out of basic social needs is a large problem. Your health is not something that should be paid for. Your voice and ideas are not things that should be granted by a company with no creators. Capitalism exists to give freedom and opportunity to those already established, and make sure the non established have very nearly no options to compete. We deserve the right pursue our dreams, and not be hampered by our inability to pay for health or communication. Everyone deserves freedom and opportunity.

Capitalism is one of the most destructive forces in history. We need to have a discussion on how to replace this carnivorous ideology with one that rewards innovation and creates an evolving society. In the future we will continue to discuss the pitfalls of capitalism, and start to formulate an ideology that will bring about a brighter future. We encourage your dissent and contribution. Your ideas are not a commodity. Come share them with us.

Happy Labor day. Enjoy this day of rest and remember that protesters died for the right to have a reasonable work schedule. Let us use this Labor Day to start a new movement. The old capitalistic ways need to be repealed, the replacement will produce true opportunity. We can find this new way forward together. The only thing we will lose are the cages the capitalists keep society in.

RIP Chris Cornell

Chris Cornell was found dead this morning at 52 years old.

It took me awhile to process this. Awhile back I wrote about Soundgarden as one of America's greatest bands. I was a fan of Soundgarden before most other grunge groups. Soundgarden was the psychedelic grunge group. I loved Nirvana and Pearl Jam, but for some reason, I enjoyed Soundgarden the most. They were bizarre and weird and like nothing I had ever heard before. They also made some of the most innovative and inventive music videos I have ever watched. "Black Hole Sun" to this day still scares me a teeny tiny bit.

What attracted me to their music was their guitarist, Kim Thayil, but there was always something about Cornell's voice that I really liked. He was great at grunge music, but he could also do rock and psychedelic vocals with relative ease. His voice was one of the first things that made me realize how great music with instruments can be. I love hip hop, I always will, it has probably surpassed blues music as my favorite genre, but back when Soundgarden came about, I was listening to some really crappy hip hop. Soundgarden kind of shifted my taste in music as a teenager. And while it was Thayil's crazy guitar that I loved, Cornell's voice had just as much to do with it as anything else.

Chris Cornell was different from guys like Kurt Cobain and Eddie Vedder, who he will be forever compared and mentioned in the same breath as. Kurt Cobain was pretty much the John Lennon of the grunge scene. He was the moody genius that left us way too early. Eddie Vedder is the Paul McCartney of the grunge era. He has done so much great stuff, both with and without Pearl Jam, but his best stuff is his Pearl Jam stuff. Just like McCartney's best is with the Beatles. To me, Chris Cornell was the George Harrison of the grunge genre. Now, for those of you that do not know me, that is incredibly high praise. George Harrison is not only my favorite Beatle, but he is one of my all time favorite musicians. What I loved about Harrison, I find myself liking the same things about Cornell. They were both different. They both tried weird and crazy shit that other contemporaries didn't have the guts to try. As I have already mentioned, look at the music video for "Black Hole Sun". Sure, maybe a video like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" might have meant more to the generation, or "Jeremy" may have had a better message, but I remember "Black Hole Sun" more than both of those videos, or any other video from that era. It was cool and crazy. The stretchy faces and the wild stuff that was going on, I was scared, but I could not look away.

As far as his music stylings, he was a lot like Harrison as well, just with different genres. Harrison was able to straddle the lines of pop, rock and Indian music. He loved his sitar and that sound of music. Cornell was a rock legend and could do some of the best psychedelic stuff since the 60's. He made psychedelic music accessible to kids like me that didn't discover the greats until later in life. And, the best thing about this, we didn't even know we were listening to psychedelic rock. We just thought it was rock music, but looking back at it now, Soundgarden, and Cornell more so, were presenting us with some of the wildest psychedelic music since Jefferson Airplane, not Starship, or Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band. I will be forever grateful to him for this. He was my gateway to psychedelic rock. I have found other, older artists, but Cornell and Soundgarden were my stepping stone.

Cornell even ventured out himself and formed the band Audioslave. For the record, I think this was a failed project, but it did give us the chance to hear Cornell sing with the greatest guitar player of my generation, Tom Morello. In his band, Soundgarden, he got to play with the most underrated guitar players, Thayil, and in Audioslave, he got to jam with Morello. That kicks ass. These 2 guys respected him so much that they asked and enlisted his vocals when forming their bands. That should speak volumes to Cornell's talent and pull with people in his field.

I'm still kind of in shock that he is gone. When I saw the headline this morning I said out loud, "NO WAY". I just couldn't believe it. I mean, he was only 52. That is way, way too young. He had so much more that he could have given the world with his music. The early reports are saying that it is a possible suicide as well. That makes it even more unfortunate and upsetting. Things seemed good for Chris Cornell, Soundgarden was back touring, and he seemed in good spirits at their last show according to all reports. I had even contemplated going to see them here in Saint Louis this Saturday. They were doing a show here in 3 days. Now, no one will ever get to see the original Soundgarden ever again. That is a sad statement. I can't peer into someone's soul or mind, but if it was suicide, that would be heartbreaking.

Go out, especially if you are in your mid 30's like me, and listen to as much Soundgarden as possible today and remember their greatness and Cornell's incredible voice. Rest In Peace Chris Cornell. My idols and people that shaped the person I am today need to stop dying.

Even a Fixed NBA Lottery Cannot Save the Lakers from Themselves

Amidst the Warriors blowing out the Kawhi less Spurs last night, we also had the NBA Draft Lottery Show. Now, just to put it out there, I did not watch the show. I was playing basketball. I think the lottery show is pointless, and I can see where every team picks on the internet later in the night.

With that being said, I do think that this lottery was fixed, much like the 2003 and the 1985 lottery shows. I was only 3 in 1985, but I know my NBA history. This was the year that Patrick Ewing was becoming a pro, and I have heard, and agree with, all the theories that the envelope was frozen, or at least cold, and it was fixed so the Knicks could take him. I fully believe this to be the truth. I also like the fact that Ewing was a Knick. It made all the sense in the world, and I rooted for the Ewing led Knicks team when I was a kid. The Sonics were my team, but I also enjoyed the Knicks back then.

The other fixed lottery, the 2003 one, was so blatant, people just bypass even talking about it. This was the LeBron year, and of course the hometown Cavs got the number one pick. Why would the NBA want it any other way? Of course this was great for the league, for LeBron, for David Stern, for the Eastern Conference, it was all just a little to perfect. Again, I had no real problem with this either. It's always nice when a hometown kid can stay home and turn the team around. LeBron was going to thrive anywhere, but it was nice that he was able to start his professional career in Cleveland.

Well, last night's lottery now has me convinced they fixed it for, at least, the third time in my life. And no, I'm not talking about the Celtics getting the first overall pick. They earned that right when they fleeced the Nets a few years ago. That is what happens when you give up asset after asset to try and chase a title with an aging Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. The Celtics did the exact right thing, and they reaped the benefits last year, getting the third pick, and even more so last night, getting the first pick. I'm also not talking about the 76ers getting the third pick. This has been their "process" for the past 5 years, and they keep getting top 3 picks every year. I'm also not talking about the Kings getting 2 top ten picks. They, much like the Celtics, earned that right when they traded Boogie to the Pelicans, and asked for an unprotected top 10 pick. All of that stuff, and all the other teams, like the T'Wolves, Knicks, Suns, they all "earned" their right to draft in the top 10. That's is what teams get for tanking nowadays. As much as I dislike the whole tanking thing, it works for these teams.

The reason I think this particular lottery was fixed was the fact that the Lakers got the second overall pick. Yes, they were bad. Yes, they "earned" the right to pick top 5. Yes, they can get a possible transformative player in this upcoming draft, which is loaded. But, they could have lost a whole lot if they didn't get a top 3 pick. The NBA did not want their beloved Lakers to have to go through a full on rebuild, even though that is currently what they are doing, and they made sure they did not lose this pick. Had they been given the fourth pick, they would have had to give it up, and they would have lost their first round picks for the next 2 years. That would have been a brutal blow to this blue blood franchise. Can you imagine how angry Magic Johnson, Adam Silver and Jeanie Buss would have been had they not gotten their top 3 pick? It would have been an absolute nightmare. So yes, I do think the people involved with the NBA and the lottery made sure that the Lakers got one of the top 3 picks.

The NBA is still trying to deal with the Knicks being horrendous, the Bulls constantly being in flux, the 76ers being one of the worst franchises in all of sports. They could not have the Lakers going through a massive rebuild as well. Never mind the fact that the NBA is as popular as ever, the powers that be want the Lakers to, at least, be relevant. Teams like the Warriors, Cavs, Spurs, Celtics, they are all great, but the NBA does not want the almighty Lakers to continue to be a 20 win team.

I do not care about them fixing the lottery, and I think it is fine. I also think it will be hilarious when they draft Lonzo Ball second overall. This is going to cause almost as much drama as if they lost a top 3 pick. There are much better players that fit what the Lakers want to do, but they will be told to take Ball. The NBA, ESPN, TNT and NBA TV will want to have the Ball family in LA. They will make it so.

To make things even more interesting, the Lakers already have a point guard. Sure, D'Angelo Russell is inconsistent, but he is only 21, he has only been in the league for 2 years and he showed flashes of being a decent point guard last year. Players need time to grow, especially guys that are only 21.

The Celtics will either trade the first pick for a superstar, or take Markelle Fultz. So, when the Lakers pick, Fultz will most likely be gone. That opens up a lot of options for the Lakers. Ball will be there, but so will guys like Josh Jackson, Jayson Tatum, Johnathan Issac, Lauri Markenien, De'Aron Fox and Malik Monk. A lot of these guys would be a much better fit on the Lakers than Ball, and from what we know, they don't bring the baggage of Lavar Ball.

I think a guy like Josh Jackson would be a perfect fit in LA. He is long, can guard, will learn to shoot and seems to have a good head on his shoulders. I also love pairing Brandon Ingram with Johnathan Issac. Issac is another long guy that can defend, he's a better shooter and, again, brings no known baggage. Hell, I'd even look at Jayson Tatum before Ball. Tatum didn't really show out, but he looks like he could be a poor mans Carmelo Anthony in the NBA. He can get his own shot and usually knocks it down. If I were the Lakers and Luke Walton, I'd look at someone in the front court as opposed to a back court guy in this draft.

Now that I gave LA some sound advice, I would bet a whole lot of money that the Lakers will take Ball, trade Russell and that will put them back even further. No one will want to sign there because no bona fide star will want to deal with the circus that is the Ball family. Luke Walton, who looks like he will be a good coach, will get very irritated and aggravated at having to deal with Lavar Ball. And, this means they will have to break up their young core of Russell, Julius Randall, Brandon Ingram and Jordan Clarkson to make room for Ball. The Ball family will not settle for his son sitting and learning, he will demand playing time right away. This will be the main problem with this pick. Lonzo Ball will set the Lakers back.

Congratulations Lakers. You guys got your top 3 pick, but I'm pretty sure you will blow it by drafting Lonzo Ball. The NBA did what they could to keep you relevant, but your front office will most likely screw it up. I guess that is what happens when you fix a lottery.

Ty Watches "Carnival Eats"

Amidst all the TV shows I watch because I genuinely have interest in them, i.e., "Legion", "Fargo", "The Simpsons", so on and so forth, I need shows like "Bar Rescue" and "Barefoot Contessa" that are just kind of on in the background, serving almost as white noise. Well, I have found another show that fits this bill perfectly, and it has become my show of choice on Thursday afternoon, if I am inside at the particular time the Food Channel is running a marathon.

Said show is called "Carnival Eats", and it is my new obsession. First off, I love the host. His name is Noah Cappe, and he is a wonder to watch. The guy has a ton of energy, but is very good at doing people on the street type interviews. He's incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to certain foods. And the people he talks to that make the food seem to enjoy his company.

The food that Cappe gets to eat as well, man does it make me jealous. Obviously, due to the name of the show, Cappe goes to random cities that have big carnivals, and he tries what some consider to be the best spots. His job makes me so jealous. I would do awful things to get a job like his. What is even more confounding, and makes me want to watch this show even more, the dude is in relatively good shape, considering all the crap he eats.

Anyway, I cannot get enough of "Carnival Eats". Cappe has eaten so much fried food that I would love to try just once. I've seen him eat so many variations of a corn dog, and they all looked tremendous. One of them was a breakfast type corndog, with the batter being pancake batter, but the chef used a polish dog, and the outside of the corn dog was drizzled with peanut butter and chocolate sauce, and to top it off, they put a light dusting of powdered sugar on top. My mouth is watering as I type this. He's had many varieties of funnel cakes, including a red velvet funnel cake. I love red velvet cake, so I imagine a funnel cake version is just as good, if not better. He's had fried Twinkies, fried doughnuts, even fried s'mores.

The craziest fried food I've seen him eat was fried watermelon. I was put off at first, but after he ate it, then described it, I want to try some fried watermelon right now. The person that made it used a pancake batter, of course, froze the watermelon over night, and after they fried it, he drizzled a watermelon syrup on top. The chef also added powdered sugar because, why not. Cappe said it tasted like a watermelon Jolly Rancher. That is my absolute favorite flavor. I need to go out and find some fried watermelon now.

It is not just fried food at these carnivals. He has had cheesecake quesadillas before. You read that correctly. He had a strawberry cheesecake quesadilla, covered in a cherry sauce. It looked incredible. He has eaten popcorn balls that have sparklers in them. Again, it looked awesome. He has had many different ice creams and a wide variety of slushies.

All the sweet food looks so great, but the savory stuff looks just as good. Cappe has eaten a ton of BBQ on the show. On a recent episode, he had a slow cooked pulled brisket bowl that included mac and cheese, cornbread, homemade baked beans and a homemade BBQ sauce. It looked dynamite. He's had so many different tacos, it is hard to single out any single one. They all look fantastic. He has had a million different types of mac and cheese. Whenever my son watches with me, he sits up when he sees mac and cheese because that is his favorite food. He has had some crazy pizza, including a gyro pizza. The gyro pizza looked so good, I wanted to crawl through my screen so I could try it.

Then there are the burgers. My god, these burgers look glorious. He has had all types of hamburgers. Burgers with doughnuts as the bun. Regular burgers heightened by the chefs secret recipe. Fried burgers. You name it, he has had it in burger form.

I absolutely love "Carnival Eats". Anytime it is on, I stop what I'm doing and watch. It's great for my kids too because they love food shows, but there is also the carnival angle, and they enjoy that as well. I always say to my wife, "I wonder if he is going to throw up this episode because he has been on the tea cup ride like 10 times". "Carnival Eats" is a homerun in every possible way. I think Cappe is wonderful. The food looks great. The people on the show seem to be having a ton of fun. Hell, even the rides look like they would be a good time. But, what makes it great is, I can put it on and just go about my day. I don't have to have laser focus like I do with other shows. It is just white noise, but it is the best kind of white noise.

Chance the Rapper was Great. Everything Else at his St. Louis Show was Terrible.

Last night I had the pleasure to see Chance the Rapper in concert here in Saint Louis. The show was great, but there was some not so fun stuff I, and a lot of other people, had to deal with last night.

I want to get the bad out of the way first, then give the review of the Chance show. First off, I think the Scottrade Center oversold the show. There were enormous lines just to get in. They seemed to have every door to get in open, but when you got in, there were only 2 security people and 2 metal detectors. So, they had four or five doors open only to let all the people in those four or five lines regroup and get into 2 lines. It was a cluster from the start. After we finally got in, we found our seats fairly easily, but since the show seemed to be oversold, there were multiple people with the same seats as my friend and I. This was frustrating, but we made it work because everyone stood the whole time. Still, it was annoying.

Chance had 2 openers, and neither were that good, in my opinion. I already forgot the rapper's name that was the first opener. His stuff was your typical bass heavy, gun shot sounds and air horns over and over again. It was very forgettable. Then there was DJ Oreo. This guy did have a ton of energy, and was a great hype guy for the show, but all he was doing was taking requests from the crowd. I'm serious. He had his Twitter and Instagram handle on the big screen and was playing parts of songs that people in the crowd had tweeted at him. I can listen to the radio in my car or at home. Like I said, he was full of energy, but we were basically listening to a very, very loud radio. This was made even worse by all the clearly drunk teens that were rapping very loudly with every single song. These were all white teens as well. It was embarrassing. This was one of the first times in my 30's when I actually felt old. I was getting irritated by all this. I don't do dance clubs and I hate when non singers sing. It was very upsetting.

DJ Oreo, after what seemed like an hour, finally said that Chance was ready to come on the stage. I got excited, but then there was another 30 minute wait. So, this DJ gets the crowd ready, then we sit there for 30 minutes. I was very close to getting ready to leave, especially when 2 of the WASPY-est people I have ever seen said that we were in the wrong seats, finally got it all figured out, and then the male of the group was dropping unspeakable words along with every rap song.

What kept me and my buddy there was, the lights went down, and finally, after 2 plus hours of listening to a very subpar rapper and a DJ playing today's hits, Chance the Rapper finally hit the stage. He rode out on a scooter and immediately went into the song "Mixtape" from "Coloring Book". All my anger disappeared. I was happy to be seeing this great artist live. For the next 90 minutes, it was great. Chance played a ton of songs, not just stuff from "Coloring Book". He played a lot of singles that he has performed on with guys like DJ Khaled. He did one of his lesser known tunes on a project he did some surfer guy when they were both broke. He played a ton of stuff off my favorite record, "Acid Rap", highlighted by my favorite Chance song, "Favorite Song", ironically. I was pumped to hear so much from "Acid Rap". I was also thrilled to hear that his mother, who was in attendance, loves "Acid Rap" as much as I do. The show was on Mother's Day, so it was nice to see his mom in the crowd. I love stuff like that at live shows. It was great.

Midway through his set, he introduced a special guest, Maxwell. I remembered the name, but I couldn't figure out who he was. Then, it dawned on me, he was a big R&B guy in the mid to late 90's. I remember a bunch of girls in high school loved his songs. It all came flowing back when he said to the audience, "I want to take you all back to 96 with this song", and he played one of his hits. It was an odd change of pace, but I've got to say, it was nice. All his songs were specifically for the mothers in the audience, and like I said, it was very nice and sweet.

After this little interlude, Chance came back on stage and crushed for another 40 minutes plus. This was when he did a bunch off of "Coloring Book", and all the songs sounded great. I loved when he did "Same Drugs" specifically. He was sitting on a stool and singing, then all of the sudden a big stage rig dropped down over the audience and he walked across singing the song to all the people there. It was cool as hell. There were a lot of fireworks, smoke, fires and a great light show. He clearly put a lot into the production of this tour. He was great as far as his performance, and at times, he seemed like a conductor, imploring the audience to sing along. This didn't make me as mad as usual because Chance is so god damn charming. He is also a very deep individual, giving a lot of deep talks and philosophizing on life and love and faith.

So, while I was frustrated at the start, Chance the Rapper came out and played one hell of a live show. He is a very good, very giving performer. Know that when you are going to his show that you will have to wait for awhile, almost to the point of wanting to leave, but when he hits the stage, the wait will be worth it. I cannot wait to see what he does next, and I recommend going to see him live if he comes near, or to, your town.

Treat Your Mother Right Today, and Everyday.

FUNNY movie of mr. t singing a song about moms. i dont remember where i found it but it is truely awesome.

Today is the annual celebration of being extra nice to our mothers. I enjoy this day. Everyone tends to be on better behavior. We hold back from being unpleasant to the other people in our family. Mothers Day is one of the few days of the year we try to be civil to each other. We do this all in honor of our mothers.

In the mid 1980's noted pitier of fools Mr T implored us all to treat our mothers right. It is ok to be angry with someone and throw personal insults in their direction, but you should never insult someone's mother.  Without one's mother, no one would be here. She is a queen second to none. Mr. T makes it clear that we should treat our mothers right, treat them right. These are not just words for today, they are words for everyday. 

Happy Mothers day to all the great moms out there. Enjoy your day. Enjoy every day. To all the kids out there - Treat your mother right. Do not be a fool who requires pity.

James Harden and Mike D'Antoni Choked in the Playoffs, Again

Maybe some playground hoop practice will help D'Antoni and Harden next time

I, much like any NBA fan, assumed that the Rockets would win game 6 last night. Kawhi was ruled out for the game. The game was in Houston. The Rockets were going to make a million threes. Tony Parker has been out since game 2. Everything was in the Rockets favor. Then, the Spurs went out and won by 39 points.

The Rockets, in a potential season ending game, at home, with one of the 2 MVP favorites, the Spurs down their 2 best players, lost by 39 god damn points. That is pitiful. I already wrote yesterday about how bad these NBA playoffs have been and last night was a prime example why. So no, the Rockets loss is not the basis of my piece today. The question I want to pose this afternoon, is James Harden and Mike D'Antoni overrated, and why do they always choke in the playoffs?

First, let's take a look at D'Antoni. Mike D'Antoni will be the Coach of the Year this season. There is no doubt about that. The Rockets had a great regular season. They played a real fun style of basketball and they won a lot more games than I, or a lot of people, foresaw. His decision to put Harden at point guard and surround him with great three point shooters and great bigs that are perfect for pick and roll basketball was genius. But, when he needed a great game from everyone last night, himself included, he laid a total egg. D'Antoni had that game on a silver platter for him. I already mentioned all the reasons as to why they should have been the team to win by 39 points. But, by the middle of the third quarter, D'Antoni looked beat. Go check out the memes and everything on the internet from last night. There is a picture of him where he just looks like he had given up.

So, we have last night as a reminder of his notorious choke jobs in the playoffs. His time in both, LA with the Lakers and New York with the Knicks, are not something we need to look at. He was put in bad situations in both places and he did not use his personnel correctly. Both he, and those franchises, are to blame for his failures as the head coach. But, when he was with the Suns in the mid 2000's, those teams were fun as hell to watch. They were like watching this current iteration of the Rockets. Steve Nash was the perfect point guard for his system. He had guys like Amare Stoudemire, Shawn Marion and Raja Bell that played their specific roles perfectly. But, those Suns teams never made it out of the West Finals. Yes, they were royally screwed by the refs one season, but other than that, those Suns teams had great regular seasons only to bow out of the playoffs with a whimper.

D'Antoni has won coach of the year awards and has a great offensive mind, but his defense is atrocious, and he sticks to his style of play to a fault. That Rockets team had no shot from the tip last night. But, even when they were down 20 plus points, they just kept jacking three after three. They could have cut into the lead if they ran some more pick and roll or drove to the basket looking to score or draw a foul. But, they just kept bombing threes, no matter how many they were clanking. To me, that is on Mike D'Antoni. He is a good regular season coach, but I do not think he is a good playoff coach. He couldn't beat Phil Jackson or Rick Carlisle when he was in Phoenix, and now, Greg Poppovich absolutely owns him. I guarantee that D'Antoni has nightmares about coaching against Poppovich.

The coach only draws up the game plan. He does not play in the game. That is on the players, and the Rockets best player, an MVP favorite, James Harden was MIA last night. He was absolutely abysmal. This was probably the worst game by a "top ten" player that I have ever witnessed. I do not know what he was thinking, but to have only attempted 2 shots by halftime, what was he thinking? I don't know if he was hurt, scared, playing possum, shaving points or just mad at his teammates and the media for saying how shitty he has been all playoffs. Don't get it twisted either, he was garbage throughout the 11 games the Rockets played in the 2017 playoffs. He was a complete disaster. After witnessing his 10 point, 6 assist and 7 turnover game on something like 2 of 10 shooting, I started to think back to his time in OKC and his first couple of years in Houston, and I remembered how unreliable he is in crucial games.

Lets first look at his 2 years at Arizona State. In is freshman year he was fine, but ASU went 21-13 and lost in the third round of the NIT. I do not even remember him during his freshman year. Then he exploded as a sophomore, averaging around 20 ppg and guiding ASU back to the tournament. But, in the second round he shot 2 of 12, or something like that, and ASU bounced out of the tournament with little to no consequence. So, we should have known that maybe he wasn't a prime time player back then.

Then, while with OKC, he was a great sixth man. He was instant offense off the bench. When came in and teamed up with KD and Westbrook, man were they fun and hard to stop. In his third year he won sixth man of the year and the Thunder made it to the Finals, in large part due to Harden's play early in those playoffs. But, when he was looked upon to come in and neutralize the Heat, he was a no show. He was so bad in those Finals. He disappeared. It got so bad, he looked scared to shoot whenever LeBron or Wade would come out and guard him.

Harden was traded, much to the chagrin of a lot of people, most notably Bill Simmons who still won't stop talking about it. He wanted to be "the man", and Houston provided him that option. He has had 5 great regular seasons with the Rockets. Well, maybe only 4, but still, he has been good to great in the regular season. He has made 5 All Star games, been on the All NBA first team a couple of times, and has been in the MVP conversation 2 of his 5 years there. But, every year, when he gets his chance to shine, he chokes.

One of his first playoffs with the Rockets, they played the Thunder, and the Thunder wiped the floor with them. This was the series where Patrick Beverly cheap shot Westbrook and knocked him out for the playoffs, but KD won that series. Harden was so so, and couldn't capitalize on Westbrook's backups that came in to guard him. Then, with the Rockets looking dead, mainly due to Harden's play, Kevin McHale benched him and the Rockets came back fro down 3-1 against the Clippers. The "Clippers Collapse" had nothing to due with James Harden. It had more to due with guys like Josh Smith, Corey Brewer and dare I even say, Dwight Howard. When the Rockets completed the comeback, they faced the Warriors in the West Finals, and we saw all we needed to see from Harden in game 1. He had multiple chances to win that game, but both Steph and Klay flat out stopped him. He was busy looking for his mouth piece as opposed to hitting big shots. The season after that, when Harden came in out of shape and dated a Kardashian, he was bad all year, and so were the Rockets. That season was dreadful and they bowed out easily in round one. The team followed the lead of their leader, Harden, that whole season, and they stunk.

Coming into this year no one knew what to expect from Harden and the Rockets. Well, Harden looked locked in and the Rockets were humming. The Rockets and Harden looked awesome. He was putting up great numbers and leading his team to 50 plus wins. He is a legit MVP candidate. But, then the playoffs started, and he played like garbage, as I have said. Yes, the Rockets beat the Thunder in 5, but it wasn't anything that Harden did. He played well in game 1, but that was it. Westbrook balled out, but he had zero help. I wrote an article about that last week. Looking back at that series, I still feel like Westbrook was the MVP.

Then, after the last 6 games, I am even more certain that Westbrook deserves the MVP. Harden never really played all that great. He never seemed locked in. The block in game 5 was tremendous for many reasons. Harden got a good look. He probably offensively fouled to get open. He played half decent in that game. But, 40 year old Manu Ginobli perfectly timed his jump and ripped the ball out of Harden's hands with no time left. I think that stayed with him, especially after watching him last night. Harden was just dreadful last night. I cannot state that strong enough. He looks so terrible. I still am baffled at his play. I guarantee that Westbrook wouldn't have gone out like that. Hell, in game 5 against the Rockets, Westbrook did all he could, he just had no help. What Harden did last night further proves to me that he is not a prime time, big shot, the guy that strikes fear in opponents hearts type of player. He doesn't seem to care how his team does in the playoffs. He just looks kind of aloof and careless in the most important moments of the biggest games on the biggest stage.

Finally, last night proved to me that Mike D'Antoni is an okay coach, in the regular season. Last night also showed me that James Harden is a great player, in the regular season as well. But, the main thing I took away from last night, both guys are chokers and cannot handle when the most important games ae happening. They are not clutch. They are not MVP caliber player and coach. They just cannot be counted on to win the big time. They no show when they are needed most. Maybe this will change, but it hasn't changed for D'Antoni since 2004, and it hasn't changed for Harden since 2008. I think they are who they are, and that is 2 guys that clam up when they are counted on most.

The NBA Playoffs have Sucked, and I am Still Going to Watch

Tonight there is a pivotal game 6 in the NBA playoffs between Houston and San Antonio. If San Antonio wins, they move on to face the Warriors in the Western Conference Finals. If the Rockets win, there will be a game 7 this weekend. With all this being said, I am not looking forward to any game 7.

This NBA postseason has been wildly disappointing. The games and series, for the most part, have been blowouts and have gone as expected. Both Cleveland and Golden State have breezed, as they should, through their first 2 series. The Warriors have not faced any real competition to this point so far, especially since they are at full strength. The Blazers, try as they might, do not have a team that is a threat to any playoff team in the West. I love Lillard and McCollum, but outside of those 2, there is not much else. It was a telltale sign of how that series would go when, in game 1, both Lillard and McCollum went for almost 85 points, and the Blazers still lost by double digits. They then breezed through the Jazz with no problem at all. The Cavs crushed the Pacers. The Pacers looked like they did not even want to be there, and Paul George was throwing his teammates under the bus left and right. They laid a total egg in game 4. The Raptors, who I thought could give the Cavs a series, were just awful. Their bigs couldn't stay on the floor, Lowry played hurt, then didn't play at all, DeRozan was wildly inconsistent, basically, the Raptors got tremendously outplayed by the Cavs. The 2 best teams have done what they should have done so far.

I expected a lot more from the first round of the NBA playoffs. I was pumped for OKC-Houston. I thought that it was going to be a great 7 game series with Harden and Westbrook trading blows. I expected high scoring games and tremendous efforts from the top 2 MVP candidates. Well, the Rockets won in 5, Westbrook got no help and the Rockets, even though they won, didn't play exceptionally well. It was a rough series to watch. Westbrook did what he could, but he also tried to take over way too often, especially in the fourth quarter. But, the Thunder have nothing else around him, no matter what some other sports writers say. Oladipo was a no show, Adams was ineffective, Taj Gibson had one good game, the Thunder's bench and other 4 starters stunk. The Rockets and James Harden weren't much better either. They shot very low percentages from 3. Harden was inconsistent. Ryan Anderson was horrible. Eric Gordon was a non factor. Lou Williams was the only Rocket that played semi decent basketball.

The Spurs-Grizzlies series was okay, but it went as expected. Kawhi was the best player, by a wide, wide margin on the floor, and after a few hiccups, they figured it out and beat the Grizzlies in 6. Mike Conley and Marc Gasol played fine, but when you are counting on guys like Wayne Selden Jr and Vince Carter, that is not going to win you many series. They got 2 because they are a prideful team, but the Spurs were clearly the better team.

The Clippers-Jazz series was the only first round to get to a game 7, but the game 7 was never in doubt. The Clippers did what they always do and blow a game they could have easily won. Chris Paul looked gassed. Blake Griffin was injured again. Deandre Jordan, once Rudy Gobert came back, was rendered useless. The Clippers are perpetual underachievers, and they showed that in this series. The Jazz played okay, but there were times that Gordon Hayward was out or inconsistent. Gobert missed the first 3 games, yet the Jazz found a way to win 2 of those games. George Hill played fine, but not great. Rodney Hood's shot was way, way off. Joe Johnson was great, but that was about it. Game 7 of this series was a total dud, with the Jazz absolutely dominating, from the tip, the Clippers.

As far as the first round in the East, I already mentioned Cleveland and their run to the conference finals. But, other than that, no real drama. Yes, the Bulls took a 2-0 lead against the Celtics, but Isiah Thomas was dealing with a horrific tragedy, they weren't hitting threes, and Rajon Rondo remembered that he was once a top 10 point guard in the league. Dwayne Wade and Jimmy Butler were playing very good basketball as well. Then, Rondo got hurt, the Celtics started to hit their threes, they played better defense, they rallied around Thomas and they won the next 4 games, by a lot, to advance to the second round.

The Raptors-Buck series was entertaining for the single reason that we got to see Giannis Antetokoumpo's first playoff experience. He was awesome. The Bucks will be good for awhile if they stay together, but the Raptors veterans and playoff experience won out in the long run and they closed the Bucks out in 6 games. DeRozan scored better in that series and Lowry played well. Ibaka looked good and a guy like Norman Powell exploded to have a big game out of nowhere.

The Wizards-Hawks series was very bland. Each team won their first 2 home games, then the Wizards realized how much better they are than the Hawks, and they crushed them in the next 2 games, including a thumping in Atlanta in game 6. John Wall was fun to watch, but that was about it from that series.

Now, we are currently in the second round. We already have 2 teams, the aforementioned Warriors and Cavs, set to play in the conference finals. The other 2 series are still going on, but with the exception of 2 games, it has been one blowout after another. The other night was the best game I have seen so far, when Manu Ginobli blocked Harden's game tying three attempt in overtime. That was a fun back and forth game, and the balance was always in doubt. Even without Kawhi in overtime, the Spurs still found a way to win. But, the other 4 games, I believe each team has won by double digits, including each team winning a game by 20 plus points. The Rockets are deadly when they make threes like they did in games 1 and 4, but when they play like they did in games 2 and 3, anyone, including the Lakers and 76ers, can beat them. Harden has looked bad, Kawhi is not dominating, LaMarcus Aldridge has been very subpar, the Rockets shooters aren't really hitting shots, D'Antoni is playing too small a rotation and Poppovich needs to quit playing David Lee and Pau Gasol and play Dwayne Dedmond and Johnny Simmons more.

The other series in the East has been the biggest disappointment to me of the entire playoffs. I was more so looking forward to the Celtics-Wizards matchup than the Thunder-Rockets. These two teams hate each other, and that has shown, but this has been a piss poor series. Yes, game 2 was phenomenal and Thomas and Wall were otherworldly, but the other 4 games, especially last night, have been terrible. Neither team seems to want to play defense. The Celtics were up about a million at halftime last night, and scored 67 points in a half. The other night, after halftime, the Wizards went on a 26-0 run to blow away the Celtics. The series has not lived up to the hype. Yes, we had a "fight", but that was about as weak a fight that I have ever seen. But, other than that, very ho hum, filled with blowouts and bad defensive basketball. I picked the Wizards to not only win this series, but I also picked them to beat the Cavs. In 6 games. With the way they are playing right now, especially on defense, and Bradley Beal personally, they will be lucky to get one game off the Cavs. I need to amend that pick and take the Cavs in a sweep.

Which leads me to my final point. Yes, these playoffs have been dreadfully bad, but does any other teams besides the Cavs and Warriors really matter? They will meet for a third straight time in the Finals. It is absolutely inevitable after what I have watched for what seems like months now in the NBA playoffs. The Cavs and the Warriors are the only 2 teams that matter, and they will, and need, to match up again in the Finals. If it is any other team from either conference, I will be disappointed. So, if you are as disenfranchised with what you've seen so far, at least, hopefully, we will get the rubber match between the 2 teams that are far and away the best 2 teams in the NBA Finals. Here's hoping.

RIP Christopher Boykin, Big Black on "Rob and Big"

Last night I heard from RD that a man named Christopher Boykin has passed away at 45. The name sounded familiar to me, but I could not put my finger on where I knew him from. Then, RD told me that he was on the MTV show "Rob and Big", and it all came flooding back to me. I remembered who Christopher Boykin, AKA Big Black, was.

Big Black was the bodyguard/friend/funny guy on "Rob and Big". I used to watch that show religiously. I loved it. This was well before Rob Drydek was a sell out and stealing ideas from Daniel Tosh, which Tosh stole from the E Network's best show, "Talk Soup". Drydek was someone I actively avoided until I heard this news last night. Big Black was the one and only reason for me to tune into "Rob and Big" Sure, Drydek would do some cool skateboarding stuff, and I enjoyed when his folks would come to visit. But, whenever Big black was involved, I always thought that was when the show was at its best.

Boykin would always do some outrageous stuff that was well out of his comfort zone. I remember one episode where Drydek was trying to teach him how to skate on a half pipe. This was funny for a couple of reasons. First off, he had the nickname Big Black for a reason. Boykin was a big, big guy. He did not have the build of a skateboarder, much like myself. It was also funny because he never skateboarded before. His first ever skateboarding attempt was trying to skate into a half pipe. That is downright crazy. He of course bit the dust, but he did it with so much humor, I could not stop laughing. I do not think he got seriously injured, and if he did, he never let on. He was laughing and having a good time the whole experiment.

But, he did more than just act a fool on a skateboard. Boykin was the guy that pushed Drydek to get out of his comfort zone. Boykin was the one that made them dress up in 70's style clothing on Drydek's birthday and go out and sing karaoke in a dive bar. Boykin was the one that wanted to hold the Guinness World Record for eating the most glazed donuts in a minute. He also wanted to break the most bananas eaten in a minute. Boykin was the one that suggested they get a family photo with the dog that they decided to get. The family portrait of the three of them is so god damn funny, but also, very nice.

Boykin just seemed like a good dude. I loved in the theme song for the show that it showed how much he cared for his friend, and how he always had his back, no matter what. Yes, he was, at first, a bodyguard. But, as time went on, the two of them became the best of friends.

I vividly remember the episode where Boykin announced he was leaving the show because he was about to have his first child. I was upset that he was leaving. I knew the show was ending there, and I knew that my television relationship with Big Black was coming to an end. He was going to be a dad. He did the right thing. He made the correct choice, no matter how upset it made me. He popped up here and there in the few episodes I saw of Drydek's show, "Fantasy Factory". But, I only tuned into those particular episodes because I knew he was going to be on them. He was my sole reason for knowing who Rob Drydek was, and why he was/is famous.

Big Black is someone that should, and hopefully, will be remembered by people my age. I, much like almost everyone else I assume, got to know him as Big Black on "Rob and Big". But, we loved him and how goofy and how much fun he had. He was filled with joy and with life. It is unfair that someone so young has left us. I know he was a bigger guy, but I had not heard anything about him being in poor health. This could be because he purposefully stepped away from television to raise his kid, which I have mad respect for, or it could have been a freak thing that happened overnight. I do not know how he passed, but, after I figured out who he was last night and remembered how much I liked him, I do know that I will miss him, and the memories he gave me while on "Rob and Big". I'm sure wherever he is now he is doing some goofy stuff and making those around him laughing and having a good time. You will be missed Christopher Boykin. Rest In Peace.

What is Kyle Lowry Worth in Free Agency?

I'll touch on how dominant the Warriors and Cavs have looked in the playoffs so far in a day or 2. Today, I want to talk about Kyle Lowry and his pending free agency.

First off, I have to state that I'm a Kyle Lowry fan. I like his game a lot, and I feel like he's an intense dude. I needed to say this because what I'm about to write might sound like I don't think he's a great player. He's a very, very good player.

With that being said, I do not think the market is going to be as open to him as he and his agent may think it will, or even should be. He will not be in that high demand. While he is a great regular season player, he has choked time and time again in the playoffs. His numbers dip dramatically during the playoffs. Teams that are perennial playoff teams probably won't go out of their way to sign him. The only regular in the playoffs that might try to sign him is his current team, the Raptors. I don't see someone like the Spurs, Thunder or even the Rockets trying to get him. I only named Western Conference teams because he's said he wants to go out West.

The only team on that list that truly needs a point guard is the Spurs, but the Chris Paul rumors keep getting stronger and stronger, and even though he's 4 years older, I'd rather have Paul than Lowry. Both are playoff chokers, but Paul's fate is more about the team and Lowry's is all on him. The Thunder have Westbrook and the Rockets have Harden and Patrick Beverly. Any other West playoff team is set at guard. The Warriors have Steph, Klay and Draymond. The Blazers have McCollum and Lillard. The Grizzlies have Conley. And teams just on the outside, like the T'Wolves and Nuggets have Wiggins, Rubio, Dunn, Mudiay and Murray. They also each have high draft choices in a draft filled with guards.

The market in the East isn't much better. The Cavs have Kyrie and LeBron. The Celtics have Isaiah Thomas, Avery Bradley, Marcus Smart, just a plethora of guards. The Wizards have Wall and Beal. Even the Pacers have a guy like Jeff Teague. The East playoff teams, save for Toronto, are set at guard.

Another problem, Kyle Lowry is also hitting the free agent market at 31. That's old in the NBA. He is well past his prime, especially with the awful "one and done" culture taking over. I do not hear a high demand to give a big contract, especially the max, to a guy that may only have 2 or 3 more years left.

Lowry would be best, if it's all about the money, to just go back home and play for the 76ers. He's from the Philadelphia area and played his college basketball at Villanova. That makes the most sense. It's the very low rent version of going home, a la LeBron 3 years ago. He would be given a hero's welcome if he signed with the 76ers. He'd even make them semi competitive, if Embiid can stay healthy for half a season.

If he doesn't want to play for Philadelphia, his choices will be slim. He can sign for much less money, and a diminished role, if he wants to go to a contender. If he wants the big contract, it has to be a team like the 76ers, or another low rent team. He could go to Orlando or the Lakers, the Knicks or even the Suns. They'll give him the money, but the playoffs will be a distant memory.

I wish Kyle Lowry would've performed better in the playoffs this year, it would make his free agency much more interesting this summer, but he did what he has done his whole career. That will be his undoing. I hope he does well, as I stated, I'm a fan, but his best days, and being the second option on a good team are done. He's older, slower and not clutch. That's the bottom line.

Ty Listens to New Music From LCD Soundsystem and Big Boi

Three song were recently released to the public, and I want to take my time today to talk about how much I personally enjoy all 3.

First off, LCD Soundsystem, a band that I love, released 2 of them. They were supposed to be released at midnight last Friday, but they got leaked early Thursday afternoon. I waited until this weekend before buying the 2 song EP on iTunes. I've got to tell you, both "Call the Police" and "American Dream" have me very, very anxious and excited to hear what their full length record will sound like when they finally finish it. These 2 songs are tremendous throwbacks to what I love most about this band. It was refreshing and comforting to hear them sound so tight and together as a full band. James Murphy's voice is still perfect for their sound, and the band, my gosh do they sound terrific.

"Call the Police" is a 7 minute synth/pop song that is just about perfect. It could have easily been on "Sounds of Silver". It has that feel. There are some great instrumentals to start out the song, and when Murphy comes in with the vocals, it is like I'm transported back to 7 and 8 years ago when I first discovered the band. It is a great, great tune. I wish it were 14 minutes long. I love the flow, the verses, the chorus and the bridge. Basically, I love the whole damn thing. I was so happy when I heard it the first time, I listened to it about 100 times more since because I cannot get enough of it.

As far as "American Dream" goes, it is a bit of a departure form their normal sound, but not by much. I also say that in a good way. Everyone knows that I like it when bands I listen to take newer and different chances on their particular style of music. LCD Soundsystem has always been a synth/punk/dance band. Those are genres I'm not that into, but for some reason, I like how they blend it all together. On "American Dream", it sounds about as poppy as they will ever get. This is a good thing. Sometimes it is nice to have a song that you can sing and dance along to. It is fun. I really enjoy the direction they took on this particular song. Yes, it is different, but if it is always the same, there is no growth. "American Dream" shows me that this band, during their time off, grew up, and now, they sound like they are having more fun than ever making music.

These 2 tracks have me fully ready to devour the new record when it comes out. I hope it gets released sooner than later. But, I will say that it is nice to kind of get a preview of what to expect on the new record with these 2 new, early released songs.

The other song I want to talk about is a totally different genre, rap, but it also comes from someone that hasn't put out new music in a long time. The person in question is Big Boi, of Outkast fame, and the song is called "Kill Jill", and it features Jeezy, and the always exceptional Killer Mike.

This song is dope as hell. I had seen a lot of stuff on social media about the song, but it wasn't until yesterday that I finally heard the song. I was driving home from a race, and I had my Run the Jewels station playing on Pandora. They played some RTJ, a few El-P and Killer Mike solo songs, and then this new Big Boi track came on. I was totally floored by how awesome it was. I'm an Andre 3000 fan when it comes to all things Outkast. I like Big Boi too, but I prefer the sound and style of Andre 3000. "The Love Below" is a million times better than "Speakerboxxx". But, Big Boi does have his moments as a solo artist. "The Son of Chico Dusty" is a really good record that doesn't get the credit it deserves. But, I'm always a little wary when Big Boi ventures out on his own. Well, not anymore after hearing "Kill Jill".

The song has a very quiet and slow beginning with an Asian lady singing something in her native tongue for about 20 seconds. After that, the beat sounds like an old Asian tune you'd hear in a Kung Fu movie, but really slowed down, and Killer Mike comes in with the first verse and absolutely crushes it. From there on out, Big Boi sounds incredible, Jeezy is awesome and Killer Mike is doing his thing. I think it is perfect for Big Boi to feature Killer Mike on a track since he pretty much gave him his start in music and help guide him in the beginning. And Jeezy, who I am not all that familiar with, sounds amazing on this song. It makes me want to check out his music to see if I would be into it.

Big Boi has done something magical with this song, and, just like with LCD Soundsystem, I'm excited to see if this one song brings about a new Big Boi solo record. I usually do not buy singles, but these are the exception. These 3 songs are tremendous and they run a wide variety of genres of music. I highly recommend people go and check these songs out. I'm glad I did, and I think you'd all enjoy them very much.

I Have to Say Something About the Republicans and Their Healthcare Bill

It is going to be mighty hot in this world, and the next, for the Republicans

I know that I have stated that I am out of the politics game here on the site, but after yesterday's atrocities, I just cannot think of a better place to heap my disgust at this maniacal, tyrannical, stone age of a "government" than my blog.

The "health' care bill that the House passed is an absolute disaster. That bill does nothing except make the sick and poor more sick and poor, and make the rich even richer. It is a downright shame that something like this was even brought to the table to vote. This is an outrageously horrible bill that will take millions upon millions of people off of health care, while making corporations more rich, and lining the pockets of the slimy pigheaded people that voted yes on this horrific bill in the government.

I hope that all the yes men and women that work in government that voted yes on this know that they have special place in hell waiting for them. I personally do not believe in a heaven or a hell, but the moronic right wing nut jobs that occupy Washington D.C. seem to always talk about the bible and God and other religious stuff, so I'm sure they believe in that nonsense. I hope they are prepared for an eternity of fire and Satan, or whatever, because that is where they are headed. I'm sure some of you that will read this are Republican, or right wing, and will say, that's too mean Ty. I say, shut your god damn mouth. If you support this bill and these monsters, then I have nothing but contempt and disrespect for you.

This bill is downright insane. This bill is going to directly effect the very same people that voted this douchebag into office. He is aiming for the sick and the poor. He and his cronies do not care about you unless you are a multi billionaire. If you do not give anything to him and his bunch of frat boy subordinates, he could care less about you. That is why something so ridiculous was pushed through the House in such a hurry. They didn't vet this bill, or even read it for that matter. Trump is such a puppet that someone gave him something, told him to sign it, and like the dip shit he is, he did it, no questions asked.

Then, the fact that thy were celebrating and drinking Bud Light after it passed is just appalling. What, was there no Natty Lights for you assholes to drink? This is so disgusting and very disturbing.

The fact that this passed has made me scared and very, very angry. To take healthcare away from the sick and the poor is so unconscionable, it makes me literally sick to my stomach. I mean, how do these people sleep at night knowing what they are doing to the less fortunate? The government was supposed to protect us and our civil liberties. Now, it is just a game to the villains in office. They do not care what the piece of paper they are signing says, they just want it to pass. The moronic and archaic GOP bitched and moaned about Obamacare for 8 years. That bill had a ton of thought and fought its way to get passed. This new health bill, they looked at for less than 100 days. That should frighten everyone. The fact that they just rushed it through proves to me that no vetting or any rational thought went into it. This was just something that they wanted to get done to make their investors, possibly the Russians, happy. I know that the Senate still has to look at this bill before it becomes law, but the fact that the House had enough votes to pass the bill is a nightmare scenario.

Look, this first 100 days plus of this monstrosity of a "government" has been anxiety fuel and I am sick and tired of being angry and afraid. Nothing these horrible monsters do makes me feel at ease. The people in charge are trying to destroy this country. They do not care about anyone but themselves. People like Trump, Paul Ryan, Mike Pence, Ben Carson, Betsy DeVos, Jeff Sessions, are horrible, horrible people that will get what is coming to them. They are going to go down as some of the worst people in the history of the US. But, the scariest thing about that, they do not care, or are too dumb to realize that what they are doing is so very, very wrong. With each passing day of this "government" I become more worried and more angry. Every morning I wake up hoping to hear that all of these crooks and criminals are being sent to jail, but it hasn't happened, at least not yet. Everyday I also scour the internet and my email looking for petitions, numbers to calls and things that I can do to try and stop this disaster of a "cabinet". I just want to wake up one day and not be afraid anymore.

What makes that even worse, I will not, at least at first, be effected by any of this stuff. I'm a middle class white man. But, I have friends that count on things like health care and LGBTQ rights and free speech. And from what this "administration" has shown so far, they are screwed.

We will fight. Go out and look at all the reactions from the majority of the country. People are starting to get woke, and I'm proud to say that I am going to stay woke as long as these injustices keeps happening. Listen up you monsters in D.C. that think you can control us, we will never stop fighting while you are in office. Get ready for more protests and more and more people questioning you and your cronies. You are thieves, crooks, and after yesterday, killers. I hope you all know that you are going to rot in jail before you rot in hell, and I want you to know that I will fight you, tooth and nail, until you monsters get what you deserve.

All of you DC Republicans disgust me. I hope the people that voted for these monsters, or even worse didn't vote at all, feel real bad about yourselves. You let this happen, and now, these criminals are trying to get away with whatever they can. For shame. As for now, keep resisting. It is going to be a fight, but it is a fight that we can win. Trust that.

Ty Watches Gorburger

Recently I have become more and more engrossed by the show "Gorburger"  on Comedy Central. I knew of the character of Gorburger prior to the show, but the show was my gateway. TJ Miller, of whom I'm a very big fan, had this blood thirsty, alien monster that hosted a talk show on Tokyo television. I saw some of the old clips online, but when the show was announced, I was very much on board. I like the idea very much, and I love when younger comedians spoof old time television.

So naturally, I tuned in to the series premiere 4 weeks ago. I did not know what to expect, but what I saw for 22 minutes kept me onboard. The show starts out as a game show in Tokyo, but then Gorburger gets blasted down to the set, quenches his blood thirst by devouring almost everyone on stage, then walks up to the 2 hosts and tells them that this is his show now, and he says that he will keep the very few people that you see standing on stage. One of those people is the announcer, and the other is the pop duo, Tokyo Fever, who whenever you say their name, they have to repeat in Japanese, "We are Tokyo Fever!". It is so bizarre, but I laugh every time.

The pilot episode features Reggie Watts, another guy that I am a big, big fan of. The whole plot is based on vaping. Gorburger even has a buddy of his, some guy that is famous on YouTube for the things he can do with vapor smoke, named Trevbone, that just sits there, vapes and does weird shit with the vapor smoke. It was distractingly weird, but it was also fun to see Reggie Watts looked just as confused as everyone else seemed to be. Reggie Watts was a good sport though, and he went along with all the weird stuff that Gorburger wanted him to do, including some absurd games. There was also a pre taped segment where Gorburger visited a real doll factory. It was disgusting, but also very funny, because TJ Miller, dressed as Gorburger, was given a full tour and got the whole spiel from the owner. It was wild. The episode ended with Reggie Watts and Thundercat doing an improvised song together, which was dope as hell. But, to keep it crazy, poor Trevbone was delivered a fatal blow to the head with a brick.

Like I said, the show does not make a whole lot of sense, but I found myself thinking about the pilot a few days after watching it. The more I thought about it, the more it was like a full sitcom version of an Adult Swim show. "Gorburger" was like watching a 22 minute long episode of "The Eric Andre Show" or "Aqua Teen Hunger Force", or even "Space Ghost: Coast to Coast". I love all those shows, so a 22 minute version of one was a great surprise.

Since the pilot, I have obviously watched the next 3 episodes. The second episode had Dr. Drew as the guest, again, being a very good sport, and the central plot was Gorburger's obsession with smooth jazz. The entire episode had Kenny G, who was literally wearing cement shoes, playing music anytime Gorburger wanted, because if he didn't, he would be hit with a brick, a la Trevbone. During the show, Gorburger visited a "twerking" class. That segment was nuts, but also very funny. "Twerking" is such a thing of the past, but to see this enormous alien try to "twerk", and the teachers really trying to teach him was a thing of comic beauty. Before the episode ended, Dr. Drew helped cure Gorburger's bloodlust, and played another absurd game. But, poor Kenny G had to keep playing jazz, Gorburger couldn't stop, and he met the same fate as Trevbone at the end of this episode.

Episode three had one of my favorite comedians, Tig Notaro, as the guest. Throughout the entire episode, little "gorbabies" keep showing up because it was shedding season for Gorburger, and they have been known to only give bad advice. During the interview segment, Notaro played a hilarious game called "Christian Bale or Christian Male", where she had to guess a quote Gorburger gave her as to if Bale, or a Christian male said it. It was laugh out loud hilarious. Later, Gorburger visited a wild life zoo, and again, it was bizarrely hilarious. The fact that these people want to be on TV so bad that they will let a guy dressed as an enormous blue alien monster come to their place just to get exposure. The interviews are always weird, but that is the point. The end of this episode was like the first 2, with Notaro playing another game, but it coming to a terrible demise for her and another gentlemen, when she took a Gorbaby's advice to smash herself through a brick wall. I'm sure this will be a running theme for the rest of the season.

The most recent episode featured Zach Woods and Johnny Pemberton, two of my favorite improv comedians/actors. They were game for all the weirdness that was "Gorburger". This has been, by far, the best episode to date. It was Grizzlebub's Day, which is like Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa for wherever in the hell Gorburger is from. They sang carols and played games and did other nonsense for the whole 22 minutes. The interview was very funny, playing another name game that immediately went off the rails. There was another death because Gorburger thought that Grizzlebub was coming due to a loud clanking sound, and the only way to appease him is a human sacrifice. It was disturbing, but dammit, I was laughing. The show ended with a performance from Portugal the Man, and the song was pretty good. We also come to find out that the clanking noise was the air conditioning guy fixing the AC unit, so the sacrifice wasn't needed.

I know this all sounds very bizarre, but for fans of absurdist humor, "Gorburger" is a homerun. I'm pretty sure season one is only 6 episodes, and they're already 4 in. I hope the people at Comedy Central keep this show going because I will watch the hell out of it, if it comes back for a second season. "Gorburger" is great. Weird, but great.

Terrible Lavar Ball is Causing Me to Root Against His Kids

Try as I might, I just cannot escape the madness that is Lavar Ball. I've written before about how he is the worst type of sports parent. But, after writing that, I was kind of able to avoid him. I'd see something that would have his name in the story, and I'd just click right by it. No fuss, no muss.

Then, a story about Lonzo Ball came out that he was going to skip the NBA combine. Now, I am not a fan of combine results and how it inflates a major prospect, but, it is a given that the big time prospects always attend. It happens in football, if baseball has one, I'm sure the top prospects show up to it, and you always have, unless they are injured, the main guys at the NBA combine. I'm pretty sure guys like Markelle Fultz, Josh Jackson, Johnathan Issac, basically any top prospect, is attending. But, for some illogical reason, Lonzo Ball doesn't think that he needs to go. He is just assuming that he will be a top pick, which I'm sure he still will be.

Aside from the skipping the combine, he has done some other stuff that I feel like his father is making him do. Immediately, and I mean immediately after UCLA got beat in the tournament, Ball's first comment was that he was going pro. He didn't seem to care at all that is team just got beat and that he was wildly outplayed by DeArron Fox. Then, he was showing up on crappy midday ESPN shows with his father to "expand his brand". Then, he declared that he only wanted to play for the Lakers. No other team that takes him would make him happy. He basically declared that he would only play for the Lakers. Like I said, all this seems like it was orchestrated by his father. So, while I was easily bypassing stories directly about Lavar Ball, I could not escape his son, and his son's comment.

Then, the thing that has really riled me up as of late, was Lavar Ball's recent comments that his son, Lonzo's, first signature shoe will be 200 dollars a pair. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT NONSENSE! No one's shoes cost 200 dollars a pair. The new LeBron's seem to average around 125-180 dollars a pair. KD's shoes are never more than 150 dollars. Kyrie Irving's shoes are usually 125 dollars. Even Air Jordan's, unless they are classic throwback shoes in mint condition, average around 160-175 dollars. These are all extremely established NBA super stars, with Jordan being the GOAT, and none of them charge 200 dollars per pair of shoes. That is asinine that Lavar Ball thinks anyone would ever pay 200 dollars for one pair of shoes. Also, who does he think is going to produce and market these shoes? He was laughed out of the Nike offices, with one of their major guys saying that he "the worst person I have ever had to deal with". Both Under Armor and Adidas have also said that they want nothing to do with the Ball family, specifically Lavar Ball. So, I ask again, who is going to sell, market, produce, create and get these 200 dollar shoes out to the public? Does he honestly think that his Big Baller Brand is going to become a thing that people will want to be a part of?

If I was a business owner of any kind I would stay away from him and his family with a 1,000 foot pole. I would want absolutely nothing to do with the Ball family, and it is all because of the father. He is a blowhard and I think he is insane. The words that come out of his mouth are just utterly ridiculous and pointless and flat out stupid. I usually like to give a player a chance. I want to watch them as pros, but I am now in the very large group of people that are actively rooting against anyone from the Ball family. I want Lonzo Ball to be a bust, and it has nothing to do with him, it is because of his father. I hope his 2 other sons never materialize to anything more than rotational college players. Lonzo Ball will be a high draft pick, he is a good player, but no one knows about his other 2 kids. I mean one of them is a sophomore, so who knows what will happen to him in 2 years. He may end up hating basketball.

I try not to actively root against kids, I'm a 34 year old with 2 kids of my own, but Lavar Ball has made the worst come out in me. He has made me an avid member of the anti Ball fan club. I want these kids to flame out as college players, and in Lonzo's case, as a pro. Lavar Ball is out of his god damn mind, and those 2 to 3 weeks where I did not even think about him were glorious. But, I just could not get the bad taste out of my mouth of this most recent outrageous declaration. No one, and I mean absolutely no one in their right minds will pay 200 dollars for shoes. That's just absurd.  Please stop talking Lavar Ball. Every time you open your mouth, you say something more ridiculous, and it makes you sound and look that much more stupid. Just please, for the love of whatever, stop.

Ty Listens to "Humanz"

The Gorillaz finally released their newest record last Friday, April 28th. This has been a much anticipated album by many, myself included, and it does not disappoint. It feels so good to hear Damon Albarn's voice again hidden behind his cartoon counterparts.

I've been on the Gorillaz bandwagon since they released their first record back in 2001. I've always bought their new records the day they came out, and "Humanz" was no different. I woke up on Friday, got myself prepared for the day, and when I had a moment to sit down, I got on iTunes and bought and downloaded the record immediately. I then listened to it immediately. I waited until today to review it because I wanted an entire weekend to let myself really get a thorough listen. The wait seemed like forever, so I needed at least three days to really access my feelings on this record. I needed the time to really let the new music sink in.

I loved, as I have already said that the record does not disappoint, what I heard. It is classic Gorillaz music. It is very synth-y, with elements of hip hop, pop, rock and roll, electronic and, to round it all out, some great R&B. I'm not a big fan of interludes on albums, but for "Humanz", the interludes feel needed. This is as close to a concept album, a title given to records that I have stated on this site that I loathe, as it gets nowadays. The interludes are your segues from song to song. They're perfect.

Then, the songs are just tremendous. First off, their is a guest on every song on this record, but that is what the Gorillaz do. They're notorious for their guest lists on all of their records. It is needed since this is a band created by Albarn and a friend of his, so he needs the help from other artists. The names that pepper this record are phenomenal. We get people like Mavis Staples, Grace Jones, Popcaan, Vince Staples, De La Soul, Danny Brown, Anthony Hamilton and Pusha T, to name a few. That is quite the guest list if you ask me. Then, to hear them with the Gorillaz, it was icing on the cake.

The first track of the record, "Ascension" features Vince Staples, and it is a great rap song. It is 99 percent Vince Staples vocals, with the Gorillaz doing the instruments, and it works tremendously. Staples is a great, young rapper, and he is on fire right now. This was a great way to start off the record. The song is bouncy, fun and very dance worthy. Staples is great, as are the Gorillaz. Then, 2 songs later, we get the song "Saturnz Barz" featuring Popcaan. I hadn't heard much from Popcaan, but this song is a great, almost disco type pop/electronic song. Again, it is very dance worthy and this song makes me want to go out and find some more Popcaan to listen to. The very next song, "Momentz" features one of Gorillaz main collaborators, De La Soul, and it is just as great as "Feel Good Inc", or "Superfast Jellyfish". De La Soul and Damon Albarn clearly have a great partnership, and any time Gorillaz releases a record, I want to first hear the song that will feature them. "Momentz" is awesome. It is a wonderful rap song, and it is great for working out. I expected greatness from both De La Soul and Gorillaz, and they, of course, delivered. When I did not think it could get much better, we get "Submission". This song features Keela, and one of my new favorite rappers, even though he's been around forever, I just recently discovered him, Danny Brown. This song is incredible, and it all comes to a glorious end with Danny Brown rapping for 90 seconds straight. Keela and the Gorillaz carry the song, and then Danny Brown comes in and finishes it off with an absolute bang. This was, after one listen, my favorite song.

But, as I dug deeper and listened more and more, I think my favorite track is "Let Me Out". This song has Pusha T just crushing it as the emcee, great vocals from the Gorillaz, and then we get the great Mavis Staples singing the chorus, as well as adding her own verses. This is the perfect Gorillaz song. It blends all their styles into one 4 minute masterpiece. This song is flat out stupendous. To get someone like Mavis Staples is a feat in and of itself, and her singing on this song is a true delight.

The rest of the record I really enjoy as well. I love the hard rocking "Charger" featuring Grace Jones. I enjoy the very odd "Sex Murder Party". "Hallelujah Money" featuring Benjamin Clementine is so sad and depressing, but it is a great song. And the final track, for those of you that did not buy the deluxe edition, "We've Got the Power" featuring Jhenny Beth is a great ending. 

"Humanz" is like a great meal. It starts out wonderful, you digest the first half, you want more, the middle of the record is great, and then the dessert that is the last 1/3 of the record that kind of slows down a bit and lets you stew in the great music. I am a fan of Gorillaz, and in my mind, they can do no wrong. The 6 year wait seemed like 60, but the work they did, and the people they got to be on this record, was worth the wait. "Humanz" is a great record, and it makes me that much more excited to see them in September in Kansas City. The Gorillaz are great, and "Humanz" is too. I highly recommend this record.

It's May Day, a Time to Celebrate the Workers, Spring, and the Birthday of SeedSing

And so it began.

May 1st will always be a special day as it represents the launch of SeedSing. I wanted to use the internationally recognized Workers Holiday as the marking point for what we are trying to accomplish here at the website. Festivals dating back to the Roman Republic era have also used the 1st day of this fifth glorious month to celebrate the rebirth of spring. SeedSing exists to give voice to those who may not have a place at society’s table, and we exist to celebrate the blossoming of new ideas. We are happy to celebrate this May Day with you, and we want to celebrate where we have been and where we are going.

So what is the purpose of SeedSing? We live in a world where ideas are being monopolized by the wealthy and connected elite. Ideas are not commodities, they are the only thing we collectively share. Here at SeedSing we want to let the people take back their rights to having thoughts. We want to give you a voice. The global community is in trouble. The people at the top of the global economic system are only concerned with self-preservation, and they have used the media and government to solidify their power. SeedSing is the people's fortress where we can speak freely, and start to fix the world being destroyed by the top 1%. That is the purpose of SeedSing.

Having spent the last few years working on SeedSing, I have evolved quite a bit. What began as a way for local candidates to easily reach their voters has turned into a blog and podcast focusing on politics and pop culture. That makes Seedsing one of the billion plus blogs out there talking about these topics, but I feel like we have something more to offer. Most websites and podcasts disappear in less than one year. SeedSing continues because of the raw and unfiltered ideas that come from people who felt like their ideas were being ignored. The writers of SeedSing have free reign to express their thoughts, be it an experiment on using the meal supplement Soylent, the awesomeness of airports, the inhumanity of the healthcare system, or the lunacy surrounding the Unicorn Frapuccino. SeedSing would not exist without their ideas, and I cannot thank them enough for everything they have contributed to this project. The guest contributors, some known and some unknown, have also been an incredibly valuable addition to the conversation we are having. With two years of growth behind us, we are excited to keep the ball rolling.

Fixing the world through our ideas does not have to be done in dark room with gloomy music playing in the background. The joy of our culture and entertainment is where our voices can be strongest. The writing here at SeedSing concerning pop culture, led by the awesomeness of Ty, has been our most popular content, because it is fun and unique. We do not discuss the same old baby boomer culture that seems to always overshadow whatever new and exciting thing is happening. This is where SeedSing is leading the way to reclaim pop culture from the constant coverage of fifty plus year old standards. Add your voice and let our culture flourish, not decay under the old ways.

The X Millennial Man Podcast has been our most successful avenue where our seeds have been allowed to sing. The 2016 Presidential election gave us plenty to talk about, but we still make room to be the definitive judge on what are the best Simpsons episodes and what are the biggest snubs for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. These are the stories we do not hear in the regular media. Podcasting has been the common persons greatest weapon against a professional media who exists to solidify the status quo. SeedSing and the X Millennial Man will continue to be the voice of people, whatever they have to say

It is Long Past Time to Blow Up the LA Clippers

Something incredible happened yesterday. And by incredible, I mean that it was such a great sight to see the Los Angeles Clippers, once again, bow out very early in the NBA playoffs. They got beat, handily I might add, by the Jazz in the seventh game of their first round matchup.

The Clippers had everything, minus one Blake Griffin injury, in their favor to easily win this series and advance to face the Warriors. They had the home court. They had the best overall player in the series, Chris Paul. They had what many presumed was the better back court and front court. They won a pivotal game 6 on the Jazz home floor. They should have won. Instead, they played some of the most uninspired basketball that I have ever seen. They looked defeated from the get go. Chris Paul looked tired. DeAndre Jordan was a complete non factor. Austin Rivers horrific offense was on full display. JJ Redick cannot shoot the three with any real consistency anymore, and he has become a total liability on defense. Jamal Crawford never found a rhythm in this series ever. Luc Mbah A Moute is a horrific offensive player, and his defense is not much better. Wesley Johnson could not get on the floor due to several matchup problems. Paul Pierce, as much as I love him as a basketball player, looked done in game 41 this year. The Clippers just stunk up the court last night.

I was happy by this, but I at least thought the Clippers would put up some kind of fight. The Jazz controlled everything about that game yesterday. Rudy Gobert was an absolute beast in the post. Gordon Hayward was doing what he has done all season long. George Hill was running their offense to near perfection. Joe Johnson looked so much better than any Clipper, save for Chris Paul. Derrick Favors looked awesome yesterday too. Hell, even Quinn Snyder outcoached Doc Rivers yesterday. It was so crazy. Doc Rivers is a NBA champion, and he got outcoached by a guy that got fired by the University of Missouri once upon a time. Now, Quinn Snyder is a much better coach now than he was back then, but still, for him to have a much better game plan than Doc Rivers was baffling.

I've said it way more than once on the site and I will say it once again, time to blow this shit up LA Clippers. This team is going nowhere, and they will continue to go nowhere as long as they keep this core group together. First off, Chris Paul is their best player, far and away, and one of the best point guards to ever play in the NBA, but he is old and getting to the point in his career where he cannot be the unequivocal leader of a title contender. He would be better suited going to a team like San Antonio or Miami this offseason, but I'm sure he will resign with the Clippers because they can offer him the most money. This summer will prove to us what he cares about more, money or titles. Resigning with the Clippers is a clear sign because they are not going to be a contender, especially in the West. Blake Griffin is an unrestricted free agent, and many teams will want him to come play for them, but he is oft injured, and I think his best days are behind him. Go back and read my piece from last Monday to get my full thoughts on Blake Griffin. He's done. DeAndre Jordan is who he will always be in the NBA. He is a decent pick and roll guy that can dunk the ball, but that is it. He is not a great rebounder, he is a subpar rim protector, an awful free throw shooter, cannot shoot outside the lane and seems disinterested in big time games. He is very big and strong, but he plays very small. JJ Redick is a free agent, just like Blake Griffin, but if Griffin is washed up, where does that put JJ Redick? He used to be a reliable three point shooter, but he doesn't even have that anymore. He is also a horrid defender. Good luck to whatever sub .500 team gives him 15 million a year. Paul Pierce, thankfully and mercifully, is retired now. He was so great once, but since he left Boston, save for one season in Washington, he has looked like a shell of himself. He looked completely washed up when I watched him play yesterday. I love you Paul Pierce, but that was painful.

Other than that, who do the Clippers have that will scare the Warriors, Rockets, Spurs, hell even the Thunder and Jazz now? All those teams are better, and I think that Portland is going to surpass them next season as well. So, if they stay pat with their "big three" of Paul, Jordan and Griffin, I still think, at the very best, they will be a 7 seed in the West. They cannot compete with those other teams, plain and simple. I know that Steve Ballmer, who I loathe, and the front office and Doc Rivers the GM wants to resign all these guys, just don't. It is an exercise in futility. As the saying goes, if you keep doing the same thing and expect a different outcome, that's the sign that you're a crazy person, or something like that. As I already stated, Chris Paul would be better suited going to a team in the East, or to a Western Conference team like the Spurs or Rockets. Blake Griffin needs a change of scenery something fierce. He doesn't have the drive that a guy like Chris Paul demands from his teammates and he has always seemed to clash with him. They need to breakup. DeAndre Jordan will stick around most likely, but he will never be the star that some thought he would be. I don't see Jamal Crawford, JJ Redick, Mbah A Moute or Wesley Johnson coming back or making any contribution of note if they do. Austin Rivers is, unfortunately for Clippers fans, probably the "future" at point guard. That is a scary thought. The Clippers also have no real depth or young guys that they have helped to get better.

The LA CLippers are a team begging for a tear down. I thought they should have done it after they blew a 3-1 lead to the Rockets 3 seasons ago, but after seeing them play yesterday, I am more than certain that they need a full rebuild. We will see what the offseason brings, but I do not want to hear anymore sports writers proclaim that next year is the Clippers year. They are so far behind, at the very least, 5 teams in their own conference. They are also never going to beat a team like Cleveland, Boston or even Washington or Toronto from the East. They are a middle of the pack team at best right now, so why bring this group back? It makes no sense, and I say, blow it the hell up. That is the best thing for the future of this team, in my opinion. Chris Paul deserves better, Blake Griffin needs a change of scenery, and I think Doc Rivers does too. I say RIP to the Clippers "big three", and their "shot at a title". It is done. They are finished.

The Truth About President Trump's First 100 Days

Was it this difficult for Abe Lincoln?

President Donald Trump recently said that it is ridiculous that we judge a President by their first 100 days. He then followed those thoughts up by stating that his first 100 days have been great. He is right on both counts.

The idea of the first 100 days as a benchmark started with Franklin Roosevelt. The country was in bad shape due to the beginnings of the Great Depression. FDR had just come off a decisive victory over incumbent President Herbert Hoover because the promises made by Roosevelt in the 1932 campaign. The country was looking for quick answers to their problems, and FDR delivered on many of his campaign pledges in his first 100 days. Every new President since FDR has used the electoral mandate of the American people to deliver on the promise of their respective campaigns. If the new President wants to do something big, it must get done in the first 100 days.

That is the story we are all told, and it is a media created myth. FDR invented the idea of the first 100 days, but he was not referring to the first few months of his own administration, he was referencing the 100 day session of the 73rd US Congress. Many of Roosevelt's programs to fight the Great Depression were started in the first few months of his administration, but many of these programs were created via executive order, and it took much longer than 100 days to make them legal. The intentional slow pace of the US Congress meant it was years before many of FDR's New Deal Programs were made legal, or were thrown out completely. FDR's true legacy was created by what the President did over the years, not in his first few months.

Since FDR, there was little talk about the importance of the first 100 days. Nearly ever President after FDR, and almost all of them before, still worked to pass big pieces of legislation almost immediately. That is what happens after an election. The candidates made promises to the American electorate, swift action is always expected. Easy to pass electoral red meat, that is what gets done in the first 100 days. The concept was largely forgotten about for decades after FDR.

With the inauguration of Barrack Obama, the media love affair with the first 100 days suddenly reappeared. Once again the country was in the midst of a big economic problem attributed to the policies of the previous administrations. The American voter expected President Obama to do something quickly. The press quickly jumped on the easy narrative of the first 100 days, and constantly questioned President Obama'a administration about their successes in this very short amount of time.  President Obama was tired of the idiotic idea of being judged by the first 100 days, and even remarked that "The first hundred days is going to be important, but it’s probably going to be the first thousand days that makes the difference". Eight years later, Obama has proven that the 100 days idea is unworthy. 

This is why President Donald Trump is right that the first 100 days mark is an idiotic standard. The press has not cared about this moronic ideal with forty-two other Presidents. The legislative process is intentionally slow and difficult. The media should not set up unrealistic expectations with the American people. If Donald Trump is going to make America great again, he will need a hell of lot longer than fourteen weeks and some change.

Understanding that the first 100 days is a dumb standard, President Trump is also correct in saying that his first 100 days have been wildly successful. The success may not be easy to see, but it is still there. The impact of President's Trump may not be as clear to the American people like FDR's or Obama's, but his actions have been equally important to setting up the future of United States. This may sound like fake news to the 54% of American voters that did not want Donald Trump to be President (that is a majority of the voters in case some people are still confused by this). The three million more people who voted for Hillary Clinton than Donald Trump may not see success in the new President's first 100 days, but it is still there. That is a fact.

The first big success for the new President was his ability to keep the vacant Supreme Court seat in the hands of the conservatives. Unfortunately, this was not really any success from Donald Trump, but more of a spoil from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's war on the US Constitution. Not happy with already disrespecting the wishes of the Founding Fathers during Obama's Presidency, great Leader McConnell also decided to throw out centuries of Senate rules and decorum to get his way. Maybe we should chalk up the Supreme Court victory to the America hating temper tantrum of Leader McConnell. But, President Trump did say Neil Gorsuch's name on television, so he should get some of the credit.

As far as policy victories, President Trump did promise to make sure all Americans would have healthcare coverage. Thanks to the incompetence of Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, the GOP's campaign promises on repealing the Affordable Care Act was seen for what it really was, pointless political pandering. Speaker Ryan, along with the help of the Freedom Caucus, made sure that Obamacare would be the law of the land for the foreseeable future. President Trump and Speaker Ryan did try to put a new "replacement" bill up for a vote, but their majorities in the House and the Senate could not be counted on to follow their party leaders wishes. Thanks to the terrible leadership of Speaker Ryan, and the "who knew healthcare was so complicated" malaise of President Trump, most Americans can get healthcare coverage thanks to the ongoing existence of Obamacare. Trump has been able to keep his campaign promise that all Americans will have access to healthcare, thanks to his predecessor.

The election of Donald Trump was going to return America to time before we promised to be the world's policeman. Before he supported the Iraq War, Donald Trump was always against it. The never ending battles in the Middle East were going to end, promised candidate Trump. Sure we may still be at war in Iraq and Afghanistan, but all the messed up military operations in Trump's first 100 days are really the fault of Obama. Trump did bomb Syria, after he cleared it with Russia, but that was because Obama did not do it years before. Yes, Trump did say that Obama should not bomb Syria, but that is Obama's fault for listening to an uninformed blowhard. Yes we are gearing up for war in North Korea, but that is because Truman did not finish the job almost 70 years ago. And Obama, he is to blame for North Korea. So President Trump may not want to be the world's policeman, but Obama has made him do it. It may not be a first hundred days success, but it is not President Trump's fault.

The economy has done a lot better under President Trump. Sure, all the economic data in the early days were still a reflection of the Obama Presidency, and the new economic figures are not looking quite as good, but Trump is delivering on making the American economy strong. He promised to end NAFTA, but backed down when he saw how stupid that is. He promised to hold China accountable on currency and trade, but after sharing cake with the Chinese President Trump had a change of heart. Candidate Trump promised to improve the economy by fixing the crumbling infrastructure, but President Trump may need more than 100 days to get a win here. The Republican led Congress can not seem to get anything passed. Trump promised that the economy would not be affected by his glorious border wall on the US - Mexico border because the Mexican government would pay for it. Another pivot for Trump when he learned that Mexico is a sovereign nation. The economy under President Trump has survived the last 100 days because the ideas of candidate Trump have all been thrown out. I'm sure Trump's tax returns show how great of an economic mind the President has, we should judge him on that hope.

Candidate Trump also promised to surround himself with the best minds in all of America. Sure his initial campaign manager, his first national security adviser, and a few other appointees have all been tied directly to the Russian government. Again, this was all Obama's fault. Why should we expect a man who wants to be President of the United States to look into his own confidants? Why the high expectations?

President Trump did appoint some great outside the box type minds. Adviser Kellyanne Conway and Press Secretary Sean Spicer may not seem to grasp basic things like being coherent and not telling lies, but they try real hard. Just look at Secretary of Energy Rick Perry, a man who did not know what the Department of Energy is responsible for. Or how about Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos? She may know a lot about bear attacks at US Schools, but her lack of compassion and knowledge about the US Education system can be easily overlooked by her large political contributions. Trump does have great political minds like son-in-law Jared Kushner and failed Hollywood wannabe Steve Bannon in the Oval Office. Unfortunately, these two geniuses have been allegedly fighting, but how is this President Trump's fault? At least he picked his daughter Ivanka to right the ship. That has worked out well. It is not fair to judge President Trump on the 90% of questionable picks, we should only look at the good ones.

When Barrack Obama was elected in November of 2008, he promised to work for all Americans. After eight years of constant obstructionism from congressional Republicans, never ending hit pieces by Fox News, and hateful treatment from private citizen Donald Trump, President Obama left the White House with a high approval rating. President Trump promised to be even better than the terrible Obama.

In the unimportant first 100 days, Trump has achieved record low approval ratings. That is not really his fault. The media keep pointing out that the new President is signing UnConstituational, and unenforceable, Executive Orders on immigration. Maybe if the Republican controlled Congress passed the immigration laws they keep promising, President Trump would not have to worry about the courts correctly interpreting his bad ideas. The press has also been highlighting all the times President Trump has tried to deny health to women and lower class workers. Why would women across the country correctly point out how inhumane this is? The President has said that his administration is pro-science. Why do people who support science, and actual scientists, get so upset when President Trump promote proven anti-science ideas with his administration. The new President wants to make sure the ideas of the minority, the 46% of the voters who actually supported him in the 2016 election, get equal billing with the proven work of people who actual understand science. President Trump is not dividing the country, it is the women who care about their own agency, the racial minorities that do not want to be hate crimed, and the real scientist who are using their expertise to make the new President look bad in front of the press.

Judging President Donald Trump on his first 100 days is not fair, but assessing his accomplishments is breathtaking. On the campaign trail Donald Trump made a lot of promises to the voter who was not happy with business as usual politics. With the help of political inept billionaires, incompetent DC insiders, and his children, President Trump has quickly evolved into a business as usual President. Endless and pointless war? Check. Giveaways to political donors? Check. Broken promises to the American electorate? Check. Blaming your predecessor for your inadequacies? Check. With all of that in mind, Donald Trump has had a great first 100 days. Just like the great 100 days of the fourty-four men who preceded him. With the greatness of his first 100 days, how great will the first one-thousand be?

The Idiot Bears Liven Up a Competent NFL Draft

This past Wednesday I made a bold claim and assumed that the Browns would make another horrific draft mistake. It is in their nature to screw things up. They have not been relevant or even competitive pretty much since they came back to the NFL.

In a big time shocker, the Browns made the right choice and took Myles Garrett number one overall. I was surprised, but the pick also gave me a little bit of confidence that maybe Hue Jackson and the Browns front office are possibly going in the right direction. Later in the first round they took my guy, Jabrill Peppers, and to be honest, I like this pick by them. I liked it even more when I heard Hue Jackson say that they will most definitely use him on offense. They also took David Njoku, who was the second best tight end in the draft, a few picks after Peppers. The Browns actually made competent choices that could benefit them in the long run.

With that being said, there were some head scratchers for sure in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft. The receiver from Western Michigan, Corey Davis, going number 5 overall to the Titans was weird. They could have gotten him easily at 18. Then there was a run on receivers in the first round, which I thought this class of receivers was very thin. Mike Williams went at 7 and John Ross went at 9. That was crazy. I thought, contrary to a lot of NFL "insiders", that McCaffery going at number 8 was a bit of a reach. I do think he will be good, but number 8, I do not get it. Sure, he is a decent fit in Carolina, but he still has a ways to go before he is a real threat all over the field.

As far as some good things I liked from the first round, OJ Howard to Tampa was incredible for both parties. Howard gives them what they need at the tight end position, and I think he immediately makes them a perennial playoff contender. Leonard Fournette to the Jaguars is great. I'm sure they will get a QB in later rounds to usurp Blake Bortles, but for the time being, they have Fournette, and I think he is going to be an All Pro from day one. Jamal Adams to the Jets was a sound pick. He was my personal favorite non Wolverine in the draft, and I think he will fit in well in New York. I also liked both the Chiefs and Texans trading up to get their QB's of the future. Mahomes should fit in nicely in Kansas City, and he will get to learn for at least one year. Deshaun Watson to the Texans is a homerun. The Texans need a QB, and I think they found one that will help them become a real threat to the Patriots in the AFC. The Titans did make a great pick, taking Adoree Jackson at 18. He's an awesome cornerback and a great returner. He will help them immediately. I also really like Jarrad Davis to the Lions. He is a good linebacker and will help that defense get much better.

All of this leads me to the biggest surprise of the night. First off, I love Solomon Thomas to the 49ers. He was the best interior defensive lineman in the draft, and he will be the cornerstone for the 49ers young defense. And, all they had to do was trade down one spot to number three to get him. You may be reading this and asking, why did they only have to trade down one pick? Well, the Bears had their hearts set on a player, and they gave up a whole lot to the 49ers to draft this certain player. The Bears gave up a lot of future picks, let John Lynch fleece them and made just a horrible, terrible, stupid and appalling selection at number 2. They gave up all of this to take Mitch Trubisky.

You read that right.

The Bears gave up the farm to take Mitch god damn Trubisky. I am on record, both on the podcast and the site, saying that I think Trubisky will be a bust of Ryan Leaf proportions. Also, why did the Bears even need to take a QB? They gave Mike Glennon a 3 year, 45 million dollar deal this offseason, signed Mark Sanchez and I believe that Matt Barkley is still on their roster. I know those guys aren't the best QB's in the world, but Glennon was once a starter, Mark Sanchez has fallen on rough times, but was a capable QB at one point and Matt Barkley looked halfway decent at the end of last season. So I ask again, why give up so much to draft Mitch Trubisky at number 2 overall? This is bafflingly stupid. I loved the reactions that were all over the internet last night of Bears fans reacting to this pick. It was as funny as some great comedies that I have watched in the past couple of years.

The Bears are absolutely going to regret this. The fans that like this pick will make their voices known very loudly at home games to put Trubisky in, no matter how well any of the other QB's on their roster are playing. The front office will push to make him play because they will want to see their high pick on the field. Trubisky is going to stink when he does get in there. He is simply not ready for the job of being a starting QB in the NFL, let alone the starter for a once proud blue blood NFL franchise. This was stupefying, but also made for some great laughs.

Being a Packers fan, I'm thrilled that one of their chief rivals made a pick this bad. But, for friends and family that are Bears fans, I feel for you guys and girls. This will not wash out the bad taste of Jay Cutler, and if I were one of the other QB's on the roster, I'd be very pissed, especially if I were Mike Glennon. This was, by far, the worst draft decision I have seen since Ryan Leaf was taken second overall by the Chargers in the 1997 draft. What an abomination.

I am Going to Say it One More Time, Russell Westbrook is the NBA MVP.

If need be, will start speaking this truth out of air raid sirens

Now that the Thunder's season is officially over, I have to write one more piece as to why I think, without anymore doubt, that Russell Westbrook is definitely the MVP of the NBA this year.

Yes, his team lost in 5 games, and yes, he took a lot of shots. But, I watched every minute of all 5 of those games and I was left with the thought of, who else was going to score, or do anything of worth on offense for the Thunder? I mean Andre Roberson was their second leading scorer for gods sake. Steven Adams offense completely disappeared in the 5 games. Victor Oladipo just could never get his outside shot to go down with any consistency. Enes Kanter is such a liability on defense, the coaching staff could not count on him to play any big time minutes. After those guys, there is no one else, at all. Norris Cole was playing big minutes for them. That is a problem.

So, for the Bill Simmons of the world to go on Twitter rants after game 5 about what he would have done, I say, shut your god damn mouth. First off, Simmons has had it out for the Thunder since they traded Harden a million years ago. He has bashed them at every opportunity that he has had, and he has a lot of them. He clearly hates this team, and I'm pretty sure he dislikes Russell Westbrook the basketball player. But, for him to sit there and still argue that Westbrook's supporting cast was just fine, enough with that nonsense. They lost the third best player in the league, and it was Westbrook that single handily made that team a 47 win regular season team.

But, just to be some kind of hot take douchebag, Simmons continues to talk about how right he was all along that the Thunder just can't win a title this way, as if he was the only writer in America that predicted this. I'm a Thunder fan, at least I was until KD left them high and dry, and I picked the Rockets to win this first round series. In fact, I'd say about 95 percent of the basketball writers across the country picked the Rockets. So no Bill Simmons, you are not some kind of cleric that was the only one to pick the Rockets. The majority of people that write about and watch basketball picked the Rockets, and it is solely because they have a much, much better supporting cast. Flip these 2 players Harden and Westbrook, and I think the Rockets are just as good, and the Thunder would be lucky to be a .500 team. James Harden is an elite talent, a great scorer and very good at drawing fouls, but he plays no defense, doesn't have the heart that Westbrook has, and has proven to be a choker in big games up to this point in his career. Harden is not a closer, Westbrook is.

Another point that needs to be made, Harden has so much more around him now. His supporting cast is miles and miles ahead of the Thunder. He has shooters all over the floor, plus some big men that don't mind rebounding, playing defense and getting the occasional lob or 2 a game. When you compare the rosters, Harden has guys like Ryan Anderson, Eric Gordon, Trevor Ariza, Nene, Clint Capela and Lou Williams. That sounds a hell of a lot more enticing to me than the Thunder players I mentioned earlier. Russell Westbrook did everything that he could possibly do for this team. He scored a ton, I know he took a lot of shots, but he was still pouring in 51, 32, and 47 in 3 different playoff games. He was still attacking the glass as he has done his whole career. He was still somehow, with piss poor shooters everywhere around him, getting 10 assists a game. There were only 2 guys, Taj Gibson and Roberson, that were doing anything, and Roberson is one of the worst shooters in the league, statistically speaking. And while I love Taj Gibson and the toughness he brings to this team, he is a million years old. Steven Adams was just flat out a no show. That was disappointing to me because I thought he's take the next step. He did not. The bright lights of the playoffs seemed to have gotten to Oladipo. And, imagine how tired Roberson was from guarding Harden.

Also, imagine how tired Westbrook was from carrying this team for 87 games. People will gripe about his field goal percentage, but coming from a guy that plays basketball once a week, by the end of the night my legs are gone. The fact that Westbrook was still out there giving his all makes me love him and his game that much more, and also solidifies the fact that he is the MVP.

The MVP is a regular season award given out to the player that is their team's most valuable guy. No one this year was more valuable than Westbrook was to the Thunder. If he had skipped town like Durant did, the Thunder would have been a 15 win team at the absolute best. But, he stuck with the team that drafted him, averaged a triple double, led the league in scoring and was the guy in every game, especially their 47 regular season wins. So, I do not care what Bill Simmons, Howard Beck, Zach Lowe, Joe House, Tony Kornheiser, any of those guys have to say about him being selfish, a ball hog or obsessed with stats. Westbrook is the MVP, and a damn deserving one at that. I will argue anyone on this.
