Ty Ranks the 2023 NFL Teams: A Cool Baja Blast to Go with a Crunchwrap Division

Welcome to day six of my preseason NFL rankings. These are the teams that should be in the playoffs, or at the very least, the playoff conversation all season long. We will get into the top ten today as well. This is where the teams get very good.

At number 12 I have the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks surprised pretty much everyone last year. They made the playoffs. They continued to win without Russell Wilson. Pete Carroll may actually be a very good head coach. But this team is full of guys who play their roles better than almost any other team in the NFL. Geno Smith had one hell of a comeback year. I forgot he was still in the NFL, but he made his presence well known. He started as a game manager, but when the coaches let him rip it, he sure did. He had a great year. I expect him to build off of that. Kenneth Walker turned himself into a pretty good back during his rookie year, but he did get hurt. That seems to be what has held him back. They got some insurance when they drafted Zach Charbonet. That kid is going to be good. DK Metcalf is one of the best wideouts in the league and the dude is in incredible shape. He is also very fast. Tyler Lockett continues to produce at a good level. Jaxon Smith-Njigba will miss a few weeks, but when he gets back he will produce. The o line is solid. They have been for years now. The defense doesn't have the stars it used to, but they are still a very good unit. Quandre Diggs is a very good secondary guy. Bobby Wagner is still out there tackling everything near him. Jarran Reed has potential as a disruptive nose tackle. Devon Witherspoon has some potential. The Seahawks have a good, solid and dependable roster. They also have a good coaching staff. This team is as reliable as it gets in the NFL.

At number 11 I have the Dallas Cowboys. I am not a Cowboys fan. I never have been. I loathe their owner. And I lived through the nightmare that is Mike McCarthy coaching your football team. But this team did some interesting things this offseason. They let Ezekial Elliot go. That was smart. Tony Pollard is better anyway. They didn't pay him, and that stinks, but he will produce for them this year. Dak Prescott has a new offensive coordinator, and I'm curious to see how that works out for him. He does need to cut down on the picks, but he is still throwing for a ton of yards. Ceedee Lamb is awesome. He is part of these young receivers in the NFL who are taking over and it rules. Lamb is dope. Michale Gallup has been good since they signed him. And they somehow were able to bring in Brandin Cooks. The Cowboys o line is one of the best in the NFL. The defense is interesting. Micah Parsons is elite. DeMarcus Lawrence is steady. Trevon Diggs may be the best cover guy in the league. They signed Stephon Gilmore. Leighton Vander Esch is a tackling machine. The Cowboys have a very good roster on paper. They should be good. But will turnovers and Mike McCarthy running this team be their downfall? Maybe.

At number 10 I have the Detroit Lions. What a turn around for this team. They have expectations now, and I am curious to see how they respond to them. But the Lions should be good. They should win their division and return to the playoffs this season. Jared Goff was never going to live up to the first overall pick hype, but he is a fine game manager who can sling from time to time. I was bummed they let Jamal Williams go, but they drafted Jahmyr Gibbs and, by all accounts, he has been awesome all offseason long. Amon-Ra St. Brown is proving to be a reliable number one wideout. Jameson Williams will come back from suspension and produce. Marvin Jones Jr is a fine third option. And Sam LaPorta feels like he was born to be a decent NFL tight end. The o line is big and angry and plays mean. I love it. The defense has gotten significantly better. Aidan Hutchinson was awesome last season and looks to be even better. Charles Harris helps form a dominant edge rushing duo. The linebacking corps is solid. The secondary has good starters and quality backups. The Lions should be good. They should win double digit games and they should be back in the playoffs. I'd love to see it for a bunch of my family members.

The final team for the day, at number 9 I have the Baltimore Ravens. They did the best thing this offseason when they paid Lamar Jackson. He is an MVP. He is the most athletic QB in the NFL. His passing game has gotten better every year. And he finally has some solid weapons around him. JK Dobbins, when healthy, is a very good running back. He is fast, can break tackles and catch passes. And Gus Edwards is a more than capable backup. They also have a speed threat in Justice Hill deep on their bench. Rashod Bateman, if he can stay on the field, will build on his rookie year. Zay Flowers has looked incredible so far. And they signed Odell Beckham Jr, who I personally think is wildly overrated, but he is another weapon for Lamar Jackson. Mark Andrews is the second best tight end in the NFL. The dude is a TD threat anytime the Ravens are in the red zone. The o line is stacked and blocks their run scheme offense to perfection. The defense has always been good, and they will be good again this season. They just signed Jadaveon Clowney. I know he cannot stay with one team for too long, but wherever he goes he gets sacks and tackles. Roqan Smith was a draft day steal and he is proving to be awesome. Patrick Queen is another tackling machine. Rock Ya-Sin is a very good corner. So is Marlon Humphrey. This team is loaded up and down the roster. They should be good. They just need to prove it. Maybe this is finally the season.

Ty's 2022 NFL Preview - Doing an Awesome Keg Stand at a Tailgate Party Division

Welcome to day seven of my 2022 NFL countdown. We are finally at the true contenders. Each team has a real shot to win it all this season.

At number 8 I have the Baltimore Ravens. I am a little scared of this team screwing up come playoff time, but maybe this is the season they put it all together. They have the QB to do it. Lamar Jackson is incredible. He is my favorite QB to watch play. He is so dynamic and so good. I know RD wishes the Vikings kept that pick and got Jackson instead of what they are left with now. He is amazing. Now it is time to put it together when it matters most. If JK Dobbins can finally stay healthy, he is the type of back to perfectly compliment Jackson. Gus Edwards isn't half bad either. Unfortunately they traded Hollywood Brown. That is a true bummer. But I have a ton of faith in Rashod Bateman. He was awesome in college and I feel like he is going to put it together. I also like Devin Duvernay. Mark Andrews is one of the best tight ends in the league. And this O line would be a dream to run behind. They are great. The D is not as feared as once before, but it is still very good. Patrick Queen is awesome. Marcus Peters is one of the best safeties in the league. Calais Campbell is a beast on the D line. Marlon Humphrey is a very competent corner. This team is very, very good. They had an off year, but I think they will make up for that this season. I see 12 wins.

At number 7 I have the Green Bay Packers. Look, this is my team, but I openly despise Aaron Rodgers. I loathe him. I wish he would shut his mouth forever. He is a dangerous lunatic. He has an emotional problem. He needs real help. And he is older. And Davante Adams is gone. He is going to have to up his play once again this season. But man do I hate this guy. The backfield is in good hands. They need more touches. Aaron Jones is a legit threat running and catching the ball. AJ Dillon is a load to take down when he gets moving. They make for a great duo. I mentioned that Adams is gone. He is replaced by Sammy Watkins, who may get cut, Randall Cobb, who is old and Allen Lazard, who has not done much in the NFL so far. I do like the young dudes though. Romeo Doubs has massive potential, Amari Rodgers is a full year in and Christian Watkins looks like he could be lethal. The O line is pretty damn good. They can play. The D has also gotten better. It was not their fault the 49ers beat them in the playoffs last year. Rashan Gary keeps getting better and better. Preston Smith is still amazing. De'Vondre Campbell is pretty damn good. Jaire Alexander is a lockdown corner. I love Darnell Savage. Adrian Amos still has it. The Packers have a solid team. The offense needs to step up though. I see 12 wins and an easy division win.

At number 6 we've got the Los Angeles Chargers. Will this finally be the year they put it all together? Sure seems so, at least on paper. Justin Herbert is a legit NFL QB. He can do it all. Austin Ekeler is a do it all dynamo out of the backfield. Keenan Allen is amazing. So is Mike Williams. The O line is very, very good. The defense is great too, and they traded for Khalil Mack. He is still one of the best linebackers in the league. Joey Bosa can eat it. He is as bad as his brother. Screw that guy. Kenneth Murray Jr was great in college. Maybe that will translate. Derwin James just got paid and he is as good as they get. Nasi Adderly is solid. The Chargers have all the potential in the world. They just need to figure it out. They should win 12 games this season, and maybe the playoffs will go better this season.

The final team for the day, at number 5 I have the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tom Brady flirted with retirement, but came back. He hasn't been with the team much this offseason, but it seems like he is back now. Todd Bowles is now the head coach, and I like this promotion for him. He is a good coach. Leonard Fournette is back and he keeps getting bigger and better every offseason. Mike Evans is one of the best receivers in the league. Chris Godwin is a great number two wideout. Cameron Brate is a solid replacement at tight end. The O line is pretty, pretty damn good. The defense, which is Bowles' specialty, is very solid. Vita Vea is an awesome interior D lineman. Devin White is an amazing linebacker. Lavonte David and Shaquil Barrett make this one of the best linebacking corps in the league. Antoine Winfield Jr is an awesome defensive back. Mike Edwards is solid as well. The Bucs are a good team. They have pedigree and the best QB to ever play in the NFL. They will be a perennial threat. 12 wins and another division title and playoff appearance are definitely in play.

Ty Ranks the 2021 NFL Teams - Going to Disneyland Division

Today is the final day of my 2021 NFL countdown. These are the contenders. These are the favorites. These are the best teams in the NFL this year, at least to me, on paper. I will do all my predictions tomorrow, but for today, I'm going to give you my top four teams.

At number 4 I have the Buffalo Bills. They made the playoffs and won a game last year. They have a stout defense. Their QB is a dick, but the dude can play. This team has stepped it up big time and they are here to stay. Josh Allen is the aforementioned dickhead QB. He has a ton of questionable off the field opinions, but on the field he has proven me wrong. I thought he was going to be a bust. He has a big arm, he has gotten better at checking the ball down and he can still run. Devin Singletary is a real solid running back. Zack Moss is a nice complement. Stefon Diggs really showed out last year. He has the goods at wideout. Emmaunel Sanders will add a nice deep threat and a good over the middle route runner. Cole Beasley is an absolute moron and a dud. I do not care about him. The O line is big and nasty and mean and good. They are legit. The Bills defense is amazing. Jerry Hughes is legit. Star Lotulelei, when his head is right, is a solid D lineman. Ed Oliver rules. He is so good. Tremaine Edmunds is a very good linebacker. Tre'Davious White is a shutdown corner. And Micah Hyde has proven he can play. This defense may be the best in the league. They are great. The Bills are back. They should easily win the division with 13 or 14 wins and make a deep run in the playoffs.

At number 3 I have the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The reigning champs are back pretty much intact and will be making a run at a repeat. Tom Brady is back for his seemingly one millionth season. I was wrong about him going to Tampa. He went out and produced and won a Super Bowl. I'm done making predictions on when he will regress. He has stayed very good for a very long time. Leonard Fournette is back and so is Ronald Jones Jr. Giovanni Bernard will make for a nice change of pace back. Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are back and they keep getting better. Antonio Brown likes to start training camp fights apparently, but the dude produces on the field. Gronk is a dummy and I still think he is overrated, but he gets TD's and catches when Tom Brady is his QB. The O line is elite. The defense, which was so good in the Super Bowl, is as intact as the offense. Ndamukong Suh and Vita Vea are as scary a D line duo as the NFL has. Jason Pierre Paul is returning to form. Devin White is an elite linebacker. Lavonte David is a relentless pass rusher. Antoine Winfield Jr proved to be worth the draft position and the hype. This team is good. I despise Tampa, but they are really, really good. It is hard to repeat, but they have the guys to do it.

At number 2 I have the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens are so good but they seem to bungle their playoff game. I think this is the year they turn it around. Lamar Jackson is awesome. He is the most electric QB in the league. He can sling it and his legs are lethal. I really, really hope he gets his COVID vaccine so he doesn't miss any time. I do not think he wants to get COVID for a third time, so hopefully he gets the shot. The Ravens moved on from Mark Ingram and handed the running back duties over to JK Dobbins. He is a younger and faster version of Ingram. Hollywood Brown is an awesome deep threat and his hands are getting better. Sammy Watkins was a nice pickup. Rashod Bateman looks like the real deal. Hopefully he recovers from his injury quickly. The O line is so good and deep and does a fantastic job protecting Jackson. Baltimore's defense is solid. They get the job done. They stop teams when they need to. Derek Wolfe is a good end. Calais Campbell is an all time D lineman. Patrick Queen is going to be a great linebacker. Pernell McPhee is already a great linebacker. Marcus Peters was an enormous pickup for them and they are reaping the rewards. This team is legit. They need to get over the playoff hump, and I feel like they will this season. They are going to win the division and multiple playoff games. Now is their time.

And my top team for the year, which is pretty much everyone else's top team, at number 1 I have the Kansas City Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes is the best QB in the league. He is electric, has a great arm, does Steph Curry level stuff on the field and is the man. Mahomes rules. He is the man. Cldye Edwards-Helaire was a great pick last year, had a great rookie season and he will continue to get better. The rich seem to get richer. Tyreek Hill, who is an awful person, and Mecole Hardman may be the fastest wideout duo in the league, and Mahomes always seems to find them wide open with space to work. Travis Kelce is the best tight end in the NFL. While the Chiefs let Mitchell Schwartz go, the O line will be much improved from last season. The Super Bowl was an anomaly, and the line will be so much better. The problem for the Chiefs has always been the defense, but they seem to be better on that side of the ball. Chris Jones is awesome. He is the second best D lineman behind only Aaron Donald in the NFL. Anthony Hitchens is a very good linebacker. So is Willie Gay. Tyrann Mathieu is one of the best safeties in the league, and after Jamal Adams got a big deal, Mathieu will be playing with a big chip on his shoulder. The corners are better too. The Chiefs are going to constantly be a title contender as long as Patrick Mahomes is healthy. This team is good, they should be the favorites and a third straight Super Bowl appearance is definitely on the table.

Ty Ranks the 2019 NFL Teams: Anchovies on Pizza Division

Kicking off day 5 of my 2019 NFL countdown I have the first team that I think will make the playoffs. You may read that and think, this team is ranked too low for the playoffs. I don't do my countdown like that, I simply rank the teams how I see them, and even though the Baltimore Ravens, my number 16 team, may be on the outside according to placement, I think they are the best team in their division, thus earning them a playoff spot.

The Ravens are a solid football team with a Super Bowl winning coach. I think John Harbaugh has earned carte blanche there, and this team is a solid bet to win their division. I love that they let Joe Flacco go, and have turned over the offense to Lamar Jackson. I think he has the potential to be Mike Vick esque. He needs to become a better passer, but the guy is electric, young and fast. He is one of the younger QB's that I actually like to watch play. He is fun. They have a pretty solid o line too. They need some better receivers, and a good ground game outside of Jackson would be nice. But this team wins with defense. And while Terrell Suggs is gone, they got Earl Thomas this offseason. I know he is coming off a broken leg, but Thomas is a modern day Ed Reed. Well, he might not be as skilled as Reed, but he is a hard hitting, ball hawking safety. He is also out to prove something this season. The fact that Baltimore got him to sigh with them is the main reason I thin they are a playoff team. They have a solid defense around Thomas as well. With Thomas, and an emerging Jackson, I think Baltimore is set up nicely for the future. I see them, fairly easily, getting to 10 wins and being a tough out in the playoffs. This team got better by letting Flacco go, and they improved their defense even with Suggs heading out.

At number 15 I have the Seattle Seahawks. Look, I have made no bones about how much I dislike this team. I'm usually a fan of Seattle pro sports teams, but the Seahawks just rub me the wrong way. First off, I loathe Pete Carroll. He is the sleazy car salesman of the NFL. He lies, cheats and blames everyone else. Yeah he won a Super Bowl, but so did Brian Billick. Carroll is a scumbag. Just ask Earl Thomas. I am also not a fan of Russell Wilson. I think he is a prima donna, who without a great defense, would have zero Super Bowl rings. The interception in the Patriots Super Bowl is more what I tend to think of when thinking about Wilson's NFL career. He is a magician behind the line, and puts up numbers, but I think that is more luck than skill. And that o line, what a joke. They are awful. They cannot block a single person. They stink. The Seahawks also have no run game. I think they went through about 6 backs last year. Their best receiver is Tyler Lockett, and while he is a burner, I think he might be 5 feet tall. But this is what happens when you give your QB all the money he wants. They can't get any skill around him. They used to be elite on defense too. Now, they only have Bobby Wagner. And while he is wonderful, every other premiere defender they had is gone because they either hated Carroll or Wilson. This team has to have the worst locker room in the league. But, they do find ways to improbably win games, and they just may win 9 or 10 again. But, for the time being, I see them regressing because of the o line and no rum game, to being an 8 win team.

At number 14 I have the Atlanta Falcons. They are just 2 years removed from a Super Bowl, and they have fallen pretty hard. For one, their defense is atrocious. They cannot stop anyone. I think a year ago they gave up 50 to the Giants, a team that hasn't averaged 20 points in a couple of years. They seemingly give up 28-35 points a game, and they always have to play catch up. On offense, I feel like Matt Ryan is a rich man's Andy Dalton. He is a better QB, and has gone farther, but what has he really done in the league. Sure, he has an MVP, but I put that more on the offense and Julio Jones. I adore Julio Jones. He is one of the best in the game. He is big, strong, fast, runs great routes and catches pretty much everything thrown his way. He just cannot seem to find the end zone. He always goes over 100 receptions, and well over 1,000 yards, but only has like 5 or 6 TD's. That needs to change. I still think the offense is going to be explosive, at least this season, but they didn't do much to shore up the defense. And Matt Ryan is only getting older. I think Falcons games will be fun, high scoring affairs, but I don't know how many of those games they can win. Maybe 8 or 9, but I tend to lean more towards 7. I wish Julio Jones was on a better team with a better QB. He deserves that.

My final team for the day, at number 13, I have the Carolina Panthers. This team is due for a turnaround. After last season, I think they will shake off the cobwebs, and be the Saints biggest problem in that division. I love Cam Newton, and I feel like he will return to his MVP form. He is too good, and too competitive, to have another down year. I know he is coming off surgery, but that guy is a player, and he will work it out on the field. Christian McCaffery really blew up last season, and I see him growing and growing into an even better player and weapon for this team. The o line got better, and they will need to protect Newton this year. I would like them to have better wideouts, but Cam has won with worse. And Greg Olsen is still there, and he was a key cog in my fantasy title last year. The defense is still solid enough to keep them afloat, although I am terrified that Luke Kuechly is going to die on the field before he realizes he has had too many concussions. The Panthers, while they may not get back to being the 15-1 team they were a few years ago, will be back to being a real problem for opponents this year. I could see them winning 11 games and challenging New Orleans all season long.

Ty Ranks the 2018 NFL Teams: Folgers Coffee with Powdered Creamer Edition

Welcome back to Day 3 of my annual NFL preview. These are not the worst teams, but they are also not very good.

Let's get to it.

Today's preview begins with the team that I think will be one spot ahead of the Seahawks in the same division, coming in at number 24, the Arizona Cardinals. The reason I have the Cardinals one spot ahead, they have a better defense, but that is it. The Cardinals actually have a very solid defense. I know they lost Tyrann Mathieu, but they still have Patrick Peterson, and that is more than enough to make up a solid secondary. Their line backing corps is so so, but their D line is stout. They can stop teams. They also have a new, defensive minded head coach. I liked Bruce Arians, but his time was up. Their offense is why I have them this far down. Yes, Carson Palmer finally, mercifully retired. He is the quintessential "what could have been" QB. If his knee didn't get shredded in the playoff game years ago, he could have been one of the greats. Since that injury though, he was so up and down for the rest of his career. Last year was rough. They still have Larry Fitzgerald, and he is an all time great. He is the best receiver of my generation. He might be the second best receiver ever, behind only Jerry Rice. Unfortunately, he never got much help. The Cardinals have other receivers, but they are all short, burners. They are fast, but that is it. They do get David Johnson back, but how good will he be coming off that gruesome injury last year? Time will tell. If he is anything close to what he was 2 years ago, the Cardinals might be a surprise. But, it is too early to tell. To replace Palmer the Cardinals drafted Josh Rosen. Rosen was my favorite QB in the draft, and I think he will be a solid NFL player. But, he does have turnover problems, and he trusts his arm way too much. He is the type of player that needs one year in waiting before he takes over. Unfortunately, Sam Bradford is the other option at QB. He is going to get hurt, and that will force Rosen into action. That is what Bradford does. The Cardinals should be better, but they won't because their offense is so suspect. I like this team, but 7-9 feels like their ceiling. But, I do feel like Rosen is a QB they can build around.

At number 23 I have the Buffalo Bills. Can someone explain to me what in the hell this team tried to do this offseason? It makes absolutely no sense. They let Tyrod Tylor go, and he led them to the playoffs last year. They traded up to take Josh Allen, my least favorite QB in the draft, when they could have gotten him at their original spot. They have this whole LeSean McCoy fiasco going on right now. Kelvin Benjamin is out here taking shots at Cam Newton. It is baffling. This team was in the playoffs last year, and now, I think they might be one of the worst teams in the NFL. The QB battle is between Nathan Petermann, of the 4 interceptions in the first half of a game fame, AJ McCarron, who is better known for having a very attractive wife, and the aforementioned Josh Allen. Yeesh. I'd much rather have Tyrod Taylor. Who knows what is going on with that run game. Benjamin is their best wide out, and that is not saying much. The O line is okay, but that doesn't really matter. The offense is a mess. The defense is solid though. They will keep them in games. They have heavy hitters, good coverage guys and can rush the passer. The playoff game against he Jags last year was an affront to football, but the Bills did play great defense in that game. The Bills made too many dumb offseason moves to make a return to the playoffs. They will regret letting Tyrod Taylor go. This is a 6 win team at the very best. I'm still shocked at their offseason.

At number 22 I have the Baltimore Ravens. First things first, I love that they traded up to take Lamar Jackson. He should be their QB of the future. I love Lamar Jackson, and I think with a few years of learning the NFL game, he could be Mike Vick 2.0. But, until then, they still have Joe Flacco. Flacco reminds me a lot of a guy like Joe Theismann. Both weren't that great of pros, but because they won a Super Bowl, they get undue credit. Flacco has a monster arm, but he is inaccurate, slow, makes dumb decisions and he just doesn't seem to care. He is not a good QB, and I don't really think he ever was. They do have a solid run game, which they should rely on more than they do. I also like that they brought in Michael Crabtree. But, it is all a wash when you remember that Joe Flacco is the starting QB. Their defense is okay, but that is it. Everyone is just old. I love Terrell Suggs, but I feel like he has been in the league for a billion years. They have that solid corner that played at Colorado, but he is in his sixth or seventh year. I feel like this team is just begging to bring back Elvis Dumervil, or sign a guy like Dwight Freeney, because they need some older dudes on that side of the ball. I like John Harbaugh. He has won a Super Bowl, and he is Jim Harbaugh's older brother. But, it might be curtains for him if he continues to stick with Flacco. Flacco will only continue to hold this team back. They have 7-9 or 8-8 written all over them. 

My final team for the day, coming in at number 21, is the San Francisco 49ers. I know, I know, they have all the hype in the world, but I do not buy it. They will most likely get second in their division, but it is only because the Seahawks are going to take a major step back, and the Cardinals are a team filled with uncertainties. The Rams, I will get to them next week, are light years ahead of them. Also, everyone is saying this team is on the rise because they now have a franchise QB, Jimmy Garropolo. I think he is okay, but he is not a franchise QB. Just because they won their last three games with him at QB, against poor competition, doesn't make him suddenly great. Just because he played in New England and sat behind Tom Brady doesn't make him great. Just because he is handsome doesn't make him great. Just because Kyle Shanahan called plays in Matt Ryan's MVP year doesn't make Garropolo great.  In the three game she started he threw 7 TDs to 5 interceptions. Yes, they won all three, but who cares. Outside of Jimmy G, what do the 49ers truly have. They have the rotting corpse of Pierre Garcon. Great. They have no real run game. Their O line is suspect. I don't even know any other skill players on that side of the ball. And on defense, they aren't there yet. I like Soloman Thomas. Richard Sherman was an okay pickup, but he is coming off a torn ACL. Reuben Foster is a woman abuser. DeForest Buckner is a bit undersized. And Arik Armstead is just not cutting it yet. I have no real faith in their defense. So, don't listen to people like Bill Simmons, or any writer on The Ringer's NFL staff, because they all love Jimmy G. That is the only reason why those guys think they will "take the leap" this year. I am very curious to see how Garropolo performs with high expectations, and as the starter from day one. I see a very similar dynamic between him and Matt Cassel after he left the Patriots. Don't get your hopes that high 49er fans. You guys still have a ton of work to do.

Ty Ranks the 2017 NFL Teams: The "Return of the Jedi" Edition

Day 4 of my 2017 NFL countdown has some teams that have been great recently and playoff teams as recent as last year. The reason they fall here on my list is either due to the age of their stars, how far I feel they will fall off due to departures and, honestly, I just don't see in them what I may have seen a year or 2 ago. All 4 of these teams could make me look very dumb, they all could win 10 plus games, but I think they will all fall right around .500 or lower. Lets go.

Coming in at number 20, I have the Baltimore Ravens. Right off the bat, why did they not sign Colin Kapernick? If you all are sick of me talking about Kaerpernick, get used to it until he is rightfully on an NFL roster. With the injury to the highly overrated Joe Flacco, this team needs a backup. Pardon me, a reliable backup QB. Ryan Mallett is not reliable. He hasn't been good since college. And Flacco, I feel like he is a worse version of Phillip Rivers. You may say, "he won a Super Bowl Ty", so did Trent Dilfer. They were both the benefit of a great Ravens defense. Joe Flacco has done nothing to prove to me that he deserves to be paid what he is currently getting paid. Their starting receivers are guys that are better suited as backups, second or third options, or guys that had one good season and cashed in. Mike Williams, Breshad Perriman and Jeremy Maclin all fall into one of those categories. At running back, they have Danny Woodhead, Kenneth Dixon and Terrance West. Very blah. Also, why is Danny Woodhead still in the league and Kaepernick can't get a job? That is a shame. As far as their O-Line, who cares. They are middle of the road and will continue to be with the guys they have. The Ravens defense has always been their strength, but they are getting old. I love Terrell Suggs, but his best days are far behind him. He is still good, but he was great at one point. Jimmy Smith is a fine corner, but he is not a lock down corner. Eric Weddle is a hard hitting safety, but he can't really cover. CJ Mosley is one of the younger guys, but he is inconsistent. Brandon Williams is an okay defensive lineman, but just okay. They don't really have anyone that jumps off the paper to me. I think John Harbaugh is a good NFL head coach, but he has done all he can do with this Ravens team. They may fight their way to 7 or 8 wins, but that's it.

At number 19 I have the Detroit Lions. Matthew Stafford is about to become the highest paid NFL player ever. Does he really deserve it? Do Lions fans even think he deserves it? This team walked ass backwards in the playoffs last year, and an undermanned, super injured Seahawks team crushed them. They were not prepared at all. A lot of that has to do with the staff, although I do think Jim Caldwell gets an unfair shake sometimes, but some of that is on their franchise QB. Stafford is a fine starter, but he will never lead any team far in the playoffs. While I think Theo Riddick and Ameer Abdullah are okay running backs, they each has glaring weaknesses. Riddick is a decent fantasy player, but he is not worthy of starter status. Abdullah has blazing speed and decent hands out of the backfield, but he fumbles way, way too much. Eric Ebron is an okay tight end, but he doesn't strike fear like some other tight ends do. Golden Tate is a worse version of T.Y. Hilton. He should not be the number one option on any team. Marvin Jones was the third guy in Cincinnati, and now he is the second guy in Detroit. Yeesh. The O-Line is fine. Their defense is mediocre. Ezekial Ansah finally showed flashes of his potential last year, and I think bigger things will be coming from him. A'Shawn Robinson has potential on the D-Line. I love Haloti Ngata, but his best days were with the Ravens. Their secondary is going to be relying on Teez Tabor, and he is a rookie. That is frightening. The Lions had their magical run last year, but I feel like they will come crashing back to Earth this season. Sorry to my family that are Lions fans, but this team is going to take a step back this season.

At number 18 I have the Arizona Cardinals. I struggled mightily with where to put the Cardinals. Two years ago they were the talk of the NFC, and someone around here thought they were going to the Super Bowl. Then last season happened. Carson Palmer reverted back to his Oakland days, either playing very average, or getting hurt. I don't know which Palmer we will get this year, but I tend to lean towards the one we saw last year. He is only getting older and older. Larry Fitzgerald is still there though, and he is still producing. I feel like he may be my generation's Jerry Rice. He is reliable, usually healthy and produces every year. He is an all timer. Other outside guys they have, John Brown, JJ Nelson and Jermaine Gresham, I like, but they don't really move the needle either way for the Cardinals. Their O-Line does their job. They keep Palmer up, and open up holes for their best player, and one of the best players in the NFL, David Johnson. Johnson is the modern day Marshall Faulk. That is not a hot take, that is truth. This guy does anything and everything for this team. He is a great running back, going for 1,000 plus yards the past 2 years. He puts the ball in the end zone too. He is also exceptional at catching passes out of the backfield. David Johnson does it all, and he could single handidly win games for the Cardinals this year. The Cardinals defense is good too, but not great. Chandler Jones, Tyrann Mathieu, the best corner in the league Patrick Patterson, Robert Nkemdiche, Karlos Dansby and their first round pick Hasson Reddick are all very good. They should, and could, be better. Mathieu always gets hurt, Dansby has bounced around a bit too much and Reddick is a rookie, Nkemdiche is in only his second season and Chandler Jones is wildly inconsistent. Patterson, in my opinion, is the best corner in the league right now, and he is the most consistent guy they have on defense. As I said, I could be very wrong on Arizona, but I feel like they may rely a bit too heavily on Johnson, and I think Palmer is in the twilight of his inconsistent career. Prove me wrong Arizona.

My final team for the day, coming in at number 17, I have RD's team, the Minnesota Vikings. Their defense is awesome. One of the best in the league without question. They are incredibly talented on that side of the ball. Xavier Rhodes, Harrison Smith, Shariff Floyd, Erick Kendricks, Everson Griffen, Andrew Sendejo and Marcus Sherels are some of the most underrated players in the league. This unit produces and does their job every week. They are awesome. What holds this team back is their extremely inept offense. The O-Line does the best they can, but when they have to protect for Sam Bradford, nothing is ever enough. I remember last year when they started 5-0 and people thought it was due to Bradford's "resurgence", I laughed. It was due to the defense, and after that 5-0 start, they crumbled because of the lack of any type of offensive production. Bradford is the king of the check down pass, and he is most definitely a bust in my opinion. They lost Adrian Peterson, no big deal, but the backups and new guys aren't world beaters at all. Bishop Sankey, Latavius Murray and rookie Dalvin Cook are next in line. Cook is, by far, the best option. He may be the only threat they have on offense this year. Murray had his best days in Oakland, and he got replaced, and Sankey, he hasn't been good since day one in the NFL. Their receivers are average due to talent and Sam Bradford. Laquon Treadwell was a beast in college, in his rookie year, he was hardly heard from. Kyle Rudolph is Bradford's favorite target, but he is an average tight end. They signed Michael Floyd, but I would be more worried about his ability to stay on the field, what with all the drunk driving. Stefon Diggs is fine, but he is a third option at best. The Vikings have an incredible defense, but it is not like the Broncos of recent, the Ravens of the early 2000's or the 85 Bears. Not even close. And their offense, oof, it is rough. This team should win 10 or 11 games, but with Bradford at QB, they will be .500 at best.

The Cleveland Browns are Hopeless

After last night's terrible showing on Thursday Night Football, which the NFL needs to get rid of, I really think the Cleveland Browns are going to finish the season 0-16. I, like many other people, thought last night was their best chance to win a game. They were playing a Ravens team that had to gut out a tough win against the Steelers on Sunday. They had some guys injured, as does all teams, and Flacco and the Ravens offense has not be setting the world on fire by any means. The Browns usually stay in games too. They never really get blown out, but they can never seem to come through in the end.

Last night though, they looked abysmal. The Browns looked like the team that had a gritty, tough game 3 days before. They looked sluggish. They looked slow. They looked unprepared. They looked as bad as they have looked all season last night. They made Flacco look like a premiere NFL quarterback. The Ravens offense suddenly "got going". I don't put much stock into this offensive performance by the Ravens because the Browns make all teams look like they have elite offenses.

I totally put this loss on the terribleness that is the Cleveland Browns. They just can't do anything that resembles something good on a football field. They cannot run the ball at all. The line gets no push and they open no holes. The running backs are either running for their lives as soon as they get the ball from the QB, or they cannot break away from tacklers. They are bad. When your best receiver is Terrelle Pryor, that should alarm Browns fans. Pryor is a very good football player, but he is, by no means, a number 1 or 2 option at receiver on any other NFL team. He is more of a trick play or third option on a decent NFL team. But, other than Pryor, I cannot name one other receiver on their roster. Their tight end, Barnidge, used to be very good, at least a good fantasy option, but he has been non existent this season. The QB's aren't throwing to him, and that is a problem.

Then, we have the QB situation. I mean, how much worse can it get for this team? They have played so many QB's this year, and the problem with all these QB's, none are NFL starting caliber QB's. Last night they turned to Cody Kessler, and he wasn't even that good at USC. I mean, he was good enough to be a starter at a major power 5 university, but he should be a third string QB, at best, in the NFL. They have also started guys like Kevin Hogan, a rookie who benefited from David Shaw and Christian McCaffrey at Stanford last year, Josh McCown, who has been so mediocre in the NFL, I don't understand why he still gets chance after chance, RG3, who was great as a rookie in Washington, but he has become a shell of himself and he never learned how to properly slide, choosing to take multiple hits, and now can't stay healthy. Besides those three guys, the other names include, Charlie Whitehurst, Connor Shaw, Pat Devlin and Austin Davis. That is a TERRIBLE list of players. No team could win with guys like that starting at QB.

On the other side of the ball, the Browns defense just can't stop anyone. They're a myriad of reasons, but I think it is mostly due to spending way too much time on the field. The offense does little to nothing for them and then the defense is thrown back out there, usually in poor field position. Even with the addition of Jamie Collins, it won't matter. One good linebacker will not shore up all the problems this team has on defense. Like I already stated, they made Flacco look like a pro bowl QB last night, and he stinks.

Also, we cannot mention the Browns without talking about Johnny Manziel. He was a problem from the start. He never did the things he promised he would do, and they eventually cut him, which they needed to do, before the season started, but he had already done his damage. Manziel was also a HORRIBLE influence on their best offensive player, Josh Gordon, who went to rehab, now is out, and doesn't want to play for the Browns anymore.

This team is a mess. I think that Hue Jackson is going to be a good coach, he did a decent enough job at Oakland as the head guy, and he was a good coordinator for the Bengals, but he was put in a no win situation this year, especially when RG3 went down in the first half of the first game. This first season is a mulligan for him.

When I look at the rest of their schedule, I honestly do not see a win coming. They have 4 home game left, but they are against the Steelers, a loss, Giants, most likely a loss, Chargers, probably a loss and the Bengals, a loss. They also have to travel to Buffalo, probably a loss and at the Steelers, another loss. I just do not see a win coming from their final 6 games. Their best chance, in my opinion, is the Giants because Eli Manning is always capable of throwing a lot of picks, but the Giants defense will win that game for them. Others may say the Browns could beat the Chargers, but I think the Chargers could score 50 if they wanted. There is no way they beat the Bengals or Steelers because those teams are fighting for playoff spots, as are the Bills. This has been a rough year for the Browns and Hue Jackson, and I think it will end with an 0-16 record.

Ty Ranks the 2016 NFL Teams: Cold Beer on a Warm Christmas Morning Edition

Day four of my NFL preview. We finally have, at least one team, that I think will be right at .500, or slightly above. These next four teams are either regressing or taking a big step forward. I have a feeling that one of the teams I mentioned today, a lot of the readers will think I'm nuts, but I have a lot of hope. We are finally getting to some decent teams. Okay, enough preamble, let's get to it.

At number 20, I have my biggest shocker, possibly in my whole countdown, the Jacksonville Jaguars. I don't know what it is about this team, but I think they are on their way to becoming hyper competitive. I have liked what they have done the past couple of years, and I know they had a chance to win their division last year, but that division was a joke. But, I have a feeling they could really become a threat in that division sooner rather than later. First off, I think Blake Bortles is on the verge of becoming an upper level QB. He is never going to be elite (ed note: like Joe Flacco), but he is becoming more than just a game manager. He is starting to throw the long ball, and instead of just managing the game, he is starting to look like he can win some games for this team. He was a huge fantasy pick up for me last year too. I wasted a fourth round pick on Peyton Manning, but I feel like I struck gold with my 12th round pick of Bortles. He is going to become very good this season. Bortles also has 2 up and coming receivers that really blew up last year, and I see more good things from them in the future. Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson are going to become pro bowlers and upper echelon NFL receivers. They are fast, have great hands, run excellent routes and get to the right spot almost every time. Then, if he can stay healthy, Julius Thomas is one of the better tight ends in the league. He's big, has good hands, and since he is a former college basketball player, he is good at "boxing" out defenders and getting to balls other tight ends usually have no chance at. At running back, they have one of the better Alabama products in TJ Yeldon. He has great patience, looks for open holes and runs fast, but more importantly, hard. He could be the one Alabama back that can turn into a formidable pro. Their offensive line in commendable as well. On defense, if they can get some of the young guys they have on the field, they could be halfway decent. The defense will still be the problem for a year or two, but when guys like Dante Fowler, Myles Jack and Jalen Ramsey get their feet wet, they could be very good. I really like what the Jaguars are doing, but they may still be a year or two away, but they are coming. I say they go 7-9 this year, and that would be huge for them. They are going to be highly competitive this season.

At number 19, I have the Baltimore Ravens. Talk about a team that could not catch a break last year. Injuries and poor QB play really did them in. They do have good players at the skill positions, but Joe Flacco is not that good (ed note: not elite?). He's too error prone and makes the worst mistakes at the worst time. But, they do have Steve Smith and Breshad Perriman at receiver. Those guys are both good, and Steve Smith, who is old, has seemed to only have gotten better with age. At running back, after the entire Ray Rice situation, he's a monster, they have Justin Forsett, who I think is very good. He can get to the holes and rack up yardage pretty quick. Dennis Pitta is still there at tight end, so they still have a reliable safety blanket. Their defense is still good, but they have suffered attrition. Terrell Suggs is still there, but he may be the lone holdover from their Super Bowl win on defense. CJ Moseley, Jimmy Smith and Elvis Dumervil are all very good, and they signed Eric Weddle for next to nothing after the Chargers let him walk. Baltimore is bound for a turnaround, they are too good of a team with a very good head coach, but they unfortunately are in a division with the Steelers and Bengals, who I will get to next week, and that will keep them in third place. But, they are my first .500 team, because I think they will finish 8-8.

At number 18, I have the New York Giants. The Giants are one of the most annoying teams in all of football, but they seem to be bad one year, then good the next. This season comes after a very mediocre season from them. Odell Beckham, right behind Julio Jones, may be the next best receiver in all of football. He makes some of the greatest catches in the game, and he is a very hard guy to cover. They also have Victor Cruz, who is still good, despite being hurt almost all of last season. Rashard Jennings is a decent running back, and so is Shane Vereen. The problem with the offense is Eli Manning. He is an interception machine, and he makes so many ill conceived throws. Yeah, he has 2 Super Bowl rings, but it wasn't because of him. Their defense has the ability to be good, but they do make a lot of mistakes. Jason Pierre-Paul is an excellent pass rusher, but he also blew half his hand off playing with fireworks, so who knows if he will ever be the same again. Olivier Vernon is pretty good, so maybe he will become the new and improved version of Pierre-Paul. The linebackers are okay, and the secondary is ho hum. Their d line is where it's at for them. They also mercifully let Tom Coughlin go, but their hire of Ben McaDoo is very uninspired. The Giants play in a terrible division, and they could conceivably win with a 8-8 record, but I think they will finish at 7-9. 

My final team today, coming in at number 17, is the team I dislike the most, the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys are so incredibly overrated, it's disgusting. They have a very good team on paper, but they have proven that stuff doesn't matter. Tony Romo is the most overrated QB of all time, hands down. No one has ever been given so much credit for doing nothing other than being the QB of the cowboys. He always chokes in the playoffs, he always makes crucial mistakes, he cannot stay healthy, why do people think he is elite? He is so far from elite, it's preposterous. I'd rather have Eli Manning, Joe Flaco, almost any QB on any team I've already mentioned on this countdown before I'd take Romo. Romo stinks. They do have a good receiver in Dez Bryant, but he is always fighting with coaches and teammates and he can't seem to stay away from trouble off the field. Jason Witten is good, but old, and kind of overrated himself. Their running game in virtually nonexistent since DeMarco Murray left. I also don't buy the Ezekial Elliot hype. He played in a spread offense in college, and those guys don't translate well to the NFL. He may also be a girlfriend abuser with the stories that came out a few weeks ago. The defense played out of their minds two years ago, but they returned to their mediocre form last year. Guys can't stay healthy or out of trouble. Sure, they released that monster Greg Hardy, but they still have head cases like Rolando McClain on their roster. They also have oft injured guys like Sean Lee in their linebacking corp. The Cowboys aren't very good, but they are in the same division as the Giants, Eagles and Washington, so a bad record could very easily win the division. I think the Cowboys will find their way, somehow, to 8-8.

Much like my blog yesterday, I'm going to tackle the NFL at the midway point.

Week 8 just ended and most teams have played 7 or 8 games. You can definitely get a sense of who is a legit contender, and who are the bottom of the barrel teams. I'll go over my previous division winners and I'll pick who I think will win their division now, and the wild cards from each conference. I'll also pick the MVP, coach of the year, offensive and defensive player of the year and offensive and defensive rookie of the year compared to my season preview.

Let's start with the AFC. The AFC East is being led by the New England Patriots at 7-0. The Jets are 4-3 and the Bills and Dolphins are 3-4. I was wrong about this division, picking the Dolphins. They've kind of gotten back on track, but they were just destroyed by the Patriots and they were a mess before firing Joe Philbin. The Jets and Bills are both middle of the road, but the Jets are playing much better than I thought with Ryan Fitzpatrick at QB. The Bills are a typical Rex Ryan team. They play good defense, have a subpar offense and blow games. The Patriots are clearly the class of this division. They're on a war path since the stupid "deflate gate" bull shit and Tom Brady and Bill Belichek are playing and coaching with anger, and they thrive that way. I don't think they'll go undefeated, but Tom Brady is playing like the MVP and they'll win this division easily. I shouldn't have doubted them. In the AFC North, the Bengals are leading the division with a 7-0 record. They're playing lights out defense right now, but they have to prove it in the playoffs before I trust them. The Steelers are 4-4 and just lost LeVeon Bell for the rest of the season, they're toast. The Browns are exactly what everyone, save for ESPN, thought they'd be. They're mediocre on offense and defense and people still talk about Johnny Manziel like he's an important player. The Browns stink. The Ravens are a shockingly bad 2-6. They've blown games that they should've won, and they look pretty bad on defense without Terrell Suggs. They're the most disappointing team in the NFL in my opinion and they just lost their best receiver for the year with Steve Smith SR tearing his ACL. The Bengals will run away with this division, no problem. The AFC South is a joke and this division made me look like a moron with my preseason preview. The Colts are in first place, but they're tied with the Texans at a dreadful 3-5. Andrew Luck is clearly hurt and their defense stinks. Screw you Indy for making me look like an idiot. The Texans are terrible. Their "vaunted" defense can't stop anyone, and their offense is bad and just got worse with Arian Foster going down with a season ending injury yet again. The Texans stink. Jacksonville and Tennessee have three wins combined. They're playing as everyone thought they would. Blake Bortles may not be that good of an NFL QB and the Jags defense is not good. The Titans are being led by a rookie QB, I know he's missed the last two games, and they may not win another game all season. Mariota is going through growing pains and he has no weapons on offense and their coach is pretty bad, and just got fired. I'm still picking the Colts to win this division, but they may only win 6 or 7 games and they will get crushed in the playoffs. The AFC West has been surprisingly competitive. The Broncos are still the best team and they're undefeated. Something is going on with Peyton Manning, but the Broncos are winning with their league best defense. They're lock down on that side of the ball. The Raiders are 4-3 and in second place. Derek Carr is a star in the making and now he has Amari Cooper to throw to. Their defense is playing halfway decent led by ageless wonder Charles Woodson. The Raiders may actually be good. The Chiefs had a brutal schedule to start the season and started 1-5, but they've won their past two and look better, even with Jamaal Charles out for the year. They have a good tight end in Kelce and a deep threat in Jeremy Maclin. Their defense is good as always. Unfortunately for them, they dug themselves to deep a hole and they won't be able to get out of it. The Chargers are a team in flux. They don't know if they're moving to LA, and they have no fan base. Phillip Rivers is on the back half of his good playing days, and Melvin Gordon hasn't lived up to the hype. The Chargers aren't a threat anymore. So, the playoff teams from the AFC will be division winners, Denver, Indy(UGH!), New England and Cincinnati. The Wild Cards will be the Jets, I can't believe I just wrote that and the Raiders, I really can't believe I just wrote that. I was wrong on Miami and Pittsburgh has suffered some brutal injuries, but other than that, I think I did okay. The Patriots are coming out of the AFC with little push. Denver is the only team that can compete, but they won't be able to beat New England in Foxborough. The Patriots will represent the AFC again in the Super Bowl. 

To the NFC. We will start with the NFC East. This division is a joke. The Giants are leading it with a 4-4 record, and they just gave up 52 points to the Saints. One week they look good, the other they look bad. The Eagles and the Washington professional football team have matching 3-4 records. How they got there is different. The Eagles play awesome defense, but their offense is bad. Chip Kelly is supposed to be an offensive genius, but he doesn't use DeMarco Murray properly, he relies on Sam Bradford too much and he has no real receivers. The Eagles are bad. Washington is lucky to be where they are. Kirk Cousins got way too riled up after a comeback victory over Tampa Bay. He's a terrible NFL QB, but who else do they have? Their defense is not very good either. Basically, they got very lucky three times and that luck is going to run out. The Cowboys have been plagued by injury and stupidity. Tony Romo and Dez Bryant missed multiple games. Joseph Randle is facing punishment for drugs and they're now starting Darren McFadden. Greg Hardy is a lunatic and doesn't belong in the league. And Jerry Jones, boy is he going nuts. The Cowboys may be the best team in this division, but that's not saying much and they are too far behind at 2-5 to win this division. The Giants will win the division and they will probably do it with only 8 wins. The NFC North is led by my beloved Packers at 6-1. They've looked pretty bad on offense the past couple of weeks though and the Broncos just throttled them on Sunday night. They'll fix what ails them, but they need a quick fix. They also need to use Eddie Lacy more, if he's healthy. The Vikings are playing pretty well, with a 5-2 record. But, let us not forget why their star player, Adrian Peterson, was out all of last season for beating a child. Announcers seem to have forgotten this, but I haven't. He's a monster. The Vikings are winning with good defense and the emergence of rookie receiver Stefon Diggs and smart QB play from Teddy Bridgewater, not child abuser Adrian Peterson. The Bears and Lions are equally bad. The Bears are 2-5 and as long as they have Jay Cutler at QB, they'll continue to be mediocre. The Lions are a dreadful 1-7 and they can't catch a break. They're also poorly coached and Matt Stafford is not a franchise QB, he's barely a starting QB. Calvin Johnson deserves better than this. The Packers will win this division. The NFC South has been surprisingly decent. The Panthers are 7-0 and playing awesome defense and Cam Newton is playing fantastic football. They also have a really good run game. The Falcons are 6-2, but they're not that impressive, save for Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman. Those are the catalysts of this team, not Matt Ryan. He's been erratic all season. The defense is serviceable. The Saints are 4-4 and Drew Brees is beginning to look like his old self, but he doesn't have any real weapons. Mark Ingram has been solid, but he's not a star and Ben Watson has been playing good at tight end, but that's it. And their defense, woof, they're bad. The Buccaneers round out this division at 3-4. They've played better than I thought they would and while Jameis Winston has looked bad at times, he's had his moments and Doug Martin may be turning his career around. But, they are still a bad team led by a rookie QB. Carolina will win this division. The NFC West has been as competitive as I thought it would be. The Cardinals lead it with a 6-2 record. Carson Palmer has been lights out and so has Larry Fitzgerald and Chris Johnson. They have a potent offense. Their defense is still really good too. Barring injury, this team should be considered a legit contender. The Rams are 4-3 and they look good one week, but bad the next. The emergence of Todd Gurley should definitely help this team out. He's been awesome. And their defense is still one of the league's best. The Seahawks are 4-4 and they've looked very unimpressive. Russell Wilson is not living up to the contract he got. Marshawn Lynch can't stay healthy and they don't know how to use Jimmy Graham. He's the best tight end in football, save for Rob Gronkowski, and he's only getting 4 or 5 targets a game. Their defense is giving up fourth quarter leads as well. They do not look like the "dynasty" that a lot of people predicted them to be. The 49ers are a total mess. They're benching Kaepernick in favor of Blaine Gabbert. WTF! He's a terrible pro. They have no running game, they traded away Vernon Davis and they can't get the ball to Torrey Smith or Anquan Boldin. Their defense is okay, but when you're on the field for 45 minutes of a 60 minute game, you get tired and when you get tired, you give up points. The 49ers stink. Cardinals win this division. So the NFC playoff teams will be division winners, New York Giants, Green Bay, Carolina and Arizona. The two wild Cards will be Minnesota and Saint Louis. This means I was wrong about the Eagles and the Seahawks. Neither will make the playoffs. I'm torn between Arizona and Green Bay, but Arizona will suffer some kind of injury and the Packers will figure out their offensive problem and they will win the NFC.

So, that gives us a Green Bay and New England Super Bowl. I'm going to stick with the Packers. They're the one team that can beat the Patriots. As far as the awards go, I was wrong on almost all of these. First of all, the MVP is Tom Brady. He's torching this league and he's on a mission. I picked Aaron Rodgers, but he's struggled lately and Tom Brady has not. Brady will also win offensive player of the year. Defensive player of the year will be Charles Woodson, not Ndomakong Suh. Woodson is still playing at an elite level and he makes the Raiders a real threat. Winning this will put him in the conversation as greatest defensive back of all time. Coach of the year is still Jeff Fisher in my opinion. He'll lead this team to a Wild Card spot and that alone gives him the award. I picked Melvin Gordon as offensive rookie of the year. He's been not so good mid way through the season. However, Todd Gurley looks to be a beast. He's setting records and rushing for a lot of yards on a good Rams team. Gurley is, hands down, the offensive rookie of the year. I picked Bud Dupree as defensive rookie of the year, but he has just blended in with the Steeler defense, he hasn't really stood out. Marcus Peters, however, has been a pretty good cornerback for the Chiefs from day one. He's my pick for defensive rookie of the year.

So, there you have it, my mid way NFL picks, Some are the same, some are different. Tell me why I'm wrong and give me your picks in the comment section.

You Would Not Take Alex Smith over Aaron Rodgers in Your Fantasy Draft.

Last night I watched the Packers play the Chiefs on "Monday Night Football".

The Packers, and most importantly Aaron Rodgers, shredded a pretty good Chiefs defense. I know that the Chiefs have some injuries in the secondary and they start a rookie back there, but Rodgers looked invincible last night. Throws were on target. He hit receivers in stride. He moved around the pocket with a mastery I haven't seen since Brett Favre. Basically, in my opinion, Rodgers has surpassed Tom Brady and Peyton Manning as the best quarterback in football.

On the other sideline, the Chiefs have a very different situation at quarterback. Now, I'm an Alex Smith fan. I think he's a serviceable quarterback. At his best, he's a decent game manager. But, last night, he looked lost and scared. His offensive line could not block the Packers defensive line last night. When he did have time, he danced around in the pocket and usually ended up scrambling for small to no gains. When he had open receivers, he either under threw or flat out missed them. The Chiefs did break their streak of no passing touchdowns to receivers, but by that point in the game, it was moot. Jamaal Charles played well, he always does, but the Chiefs need Alex Smith to do more if they want to compete in the AFC. Jamaal Charles can only do so much, he needs help from his quarterback.

The game and the Packer win is not the point of my column today. While watching this game last night, the commentators for ESPN(the god awful team of Jon Gruden and Mike Tirico) brought up the fact that Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers were in the same draft class. One of them was the first overall pick in the 2005 draft, the other was the 24th overall pick. Watching this game, you'd think that Rodgers was clearly the first overall pick, right? Well, you'd be wrong. Alex Smith was the overall number one pick in that draft by the San Francisco 49ers. After the 49ers took Smith, 22 other teams passed on Aaron Rodgers. He had a funky delivery and he didn't have a ton of highlights as the quarterback of the Cal Bears. At least, that's what the "geniuses" said on their scouting reports. Rumors also surfaced that the Packers picked him out of spite. They didn't want the Chicago Bears to draft him, who had the next pick, which they then immediately traded after the Packers took Rodgers. People in Green Bay and fans of the Packers all over the world were furious that the Packers took Rodgers, my father and I included. We didn't want a quarterback, we had Favre. And if they were going to take a QB, why Rodgers? We all thought he wouldn't amount to much of an NFL player. He would also have to sit behind Favre until Favre was done playing. The pick didn't make any sense to anyone, except for the editor of this website, RD. He called me and my dad after the pick and said that the Packers got the steal of the draft, and that Rodgers was going to be a star. We told him he was nuts. He had no idea what he was talking about.

I'm glad that I was wrong. I'm thrilled to have Aaron Rodgers quarterbacking my team. But, Rodgers did have to sit for the first four years of his career and learn from Favre. The same couldn't be said for the first overall pick, Alex Smith. He was going to be the savior of the 49er franchise in the early 21st century. His blend of athleticism, he ran the spread at Utah before almost every team was running it in college football, was going to change the position. Unfortunately, the 49ers were not a good team and Smith's first five years were rough. The 49ers lured Jim Harbaugh away from Stanford in 2011 and that changed Smith's NFL career, for one and a half seasons. In Harbaugh's first season, he needed Smith to be a manager of the game, and that's what he got. Smith became a guy that didn't turn the ball over and could move the chains with short passes and his legs. He led the 49ers to the playoffs for the first time in a long time. During that same season, 2011, Aaron Rodgers coming off a Super Bowl win in 2010, won the MVP. He was no game manager, he was a game winner. The very next season, the 49ers had one of the best starts of any team in the NFL, and Smith was leading the way. He suffered a concussion midway through the season, and lost his starting job to second year "phenom" Colin Kaepernick. As athletic as Smith was, Kaepernick was younger and more athletic. Harbaugh rode Kaepernick all the way to the Super Bowl, the Ravens beat the 49ers, and Smith was relegated to back up duty. Meanwhile, Rodgers was putting up huge numbers, won a title, won two MVP awards, was a constant on All Pro and Pro Bowl teams, winning division titles with ease and playing in the playoffs every year. Their careers were on completely different paths. Rodgers was playing like the first overall pick, and Smith, he may as well been a fourth round pick. The 49ers traded Smith to the Chiefs the season following their Super Bowl appearance. The Chiefs have been an okay team under Smith, but they haven't had anything near the success the Packers have enjoyed with Rodgers at the helm.

Just to give you guys a taste of some of the players picked between Smith and Rodgers, names like, Cadillac Williams(out of the league), Braylon Edwards(out of the league), Cedric Benson(out of the league), Ronnie Brown(I think he's out of the league), Shawne Merriman(retired and also a women abuser) and David Pollack(out of the league due to a neck injury and a huge chauvinist). Guys who are still playing that were picked before Rodgers include some good players like Derrick Johnson(linebacker for the Chiefs), Damarcus Ware(linebacker for the Broncos) and Adam "Pac Man" Jones(DB for the Bengals). These guys are good, but I'd much rather have Aaron Rodgers. I know that not all teams need a QB when it's draft time, or that the draft is a total crap shoot, but Rodgers is, by far, the best player taken in the 2005 draft. Watching the game last night and hearing that they were in the same draft class was so shocking to me. I thought Rodgers was older than Alex Smith because he's so much better than Alex Smith. Rodgers has mastered the quarterback position, and Alex Smith struggles to be a game manager. The fact that the 49ers thought so highly of Smith and that Rodgers wasn't even on their radar is bewildering to me. I'm sure they wish they had taken Rodgers, but I'm sure a lot of teams in the 2005 draft wished they'd taken Rodgers. I guess you never truly know what you will get out of the draft, but last night, Aaron Rodgers was one thousand times better than Alex Smith, and Rodgers was picked 23 spots later than Smith.

But, most of all, how does it feel Roger Goodell? Tom Brady, once again, beat all of you. I'm not a fan of the Patriots, I do like Tom Brady, but if it was any other player in the league, I'd be just as happy. This is a great day for the players in the NFL, especially the superstars. The fact that this whole thing, having some under inflated footballs, became this big a deal, is an absolute joke. There's much bigger fish for the NFL and its god awful commissioner to fry. Maybe, instead of trying to suspend your biggest star for under inflated footballs, you should deal with the rampant physical abuse, or the drug and alcohol problems, or the steroid use, or your biggest issue of all, your dumbass commissioner.

The commissioner tried and failed(typing those five words made me very happy) to show some "clout" and suspend the NFL's biggest star for one of the dumbest reasons I've ever heard. Who in the hell cares about a team gaining a competitive advantage. Everyone does it in all sports at any level, and if you don't agree with me, you're 1,000 percent wrong. It happens everywhere. The fact that this became such a big issue is asinine. I say again, who cares? The three questions I posed at the beginning are what made me angry in the first place and now makes me extremely happy with today's outcome. First of all, these morons at ESPN who called Tom Brady and the Patriots cheaters for under inflating footballs must feel like real idiots today. That network is full of morons, and the ones who complained about this being a "big" problem and that the Patriots would "get theirs" must be crying a river of tears today. The commentators that complained about this, people like Bill Polian(former Colts owner or GM, I don't remember) or Jerome Bettis, or Colin Cowherd all seem to have an agenda against Brady and the Patriots. In Bettis and Polian's case, I feel like they held the torch to the Patriots feet because the Patriots regularly ended their teams season in the playoffs year after year. I think they felt this "issue" would give them a good excuse of why the Patriots beat them consistently. Spoiler alert, the Patriots were and are a better team with better players and better coaches. They didn't cheat you guys out of victory, they beat you, just like Brady beat you again today off the field. In Colin Cowherd's case, he's just a douchebag that blows smoke up his listeners ass and complains about any and everything just so he can hear his own voice. Cowherd is a terrible, terrible commentator and person. He sucks. As far as things go for the Colts and Ravens, it's the same thing I said for the commentators at ESPN. They tried to finds excuses for why they got beat in the playoffs last year. And, no matter what you say Ravens fans, owners and coaches, you guys said something to the Colts after you blew two 14 point leads to the Patriots in the previous playoff game. The fact of the matter is, the Patriots beat you. No gimmicks, no tricks, they flat out beat you. In the Colts case, you guys lost the AFC Championship game by 38 points. Let me spell that for you, THIRTY EIGHT POINTS! They didn't even throw the ball all that much against you either. They ran and ran and ran the ball some more all the way to the tune of a 45 to 7 victory. They crushed you, and instead of taking the defeat, you looked for excuses. Well, Brady beat you again today. Deal with it.

Which brings me to the person who got crushed the most by the decision today, Satan himself, Roger Goodell. I ask again, how does it feel you asshole? You got crushed by the judge today and you are even more tarnished now than you were before. I didn't think that was possible with how terribly you've handled everything so far, but you trying to suspend Brady, getting the suspension overturned and now, you're trying to appeal the decision. You sir are a MORON. Every decision you make gets dumber and dumber. I hope this whole situation gets your ass fired and we never have to hear from you ever again. Nothing would make me happier than if you got fired and disappeared from the media and just faded into obscurity. The decision made by the judge today shows, that no matter how many owners you are in bed with, trying to suspend someone for something this miniscule is stupid. As I mentioned earlier, you have much, much bigger issues to deal with. That is, if you keep your job after today. You suck Roger Goodell and I'm so happy that you were made to look like a complete idiot today. This is a good day for football players and fans, and I hope this is the first step in getting Roger Goodell's punk ass out of football.

Ty's NFL Preview 2015: AFC

Ty is set to watch some NFL foot... wait, why the hell is his drink green?

Ed Note: We will break Ty's NFL preview up into three parts. Today we give you the AFC, tomorrow the NFC, and then the Super Bowl and awards.

On the heels of my 2015 college football preview, I'll be doing my first annual, "Ty's NFL Preview".

Much in the same vain as the college preview, I'll pick division winners, two wild cards from each conference, the teams that will play in the conference championship games, the Super Bowl winner and the offensive and defensive players of the year. Hell, I'll even throw in my pick for coach of the year and offensive and defensive rookies of the year. No preseason bull shit, because, just like the preseason poll in college football, preseason in the NFL doesn't mean anything to anyone that's watching. Preseason is more for players trying to make teams. And, no matter how terrible of a commissioner Roger Goodell is, I've mentioned how bad he is many times on the site, NFL football is the most popular sport in America and I love it just as much as any other fan out there.

So, let's get started. First, I'll break down the AFC. I'll start with the AFC East. The AFC East consists of the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets and defending super bowl champs, the New England Patriots. The Bills had a pretty wild offseason. First, their former coach, Doug Marrone, quit out of nowhere, He led this team to 9 wins last season, with no decent QB, and just up and quit. It made no sense to me. So, the Bills hired Rex Ryan after he was fired by the Jets. I don't like this hire because I don't think Rex Ryan is a good head coach. He knows a lot about defense, but basically doesn't care or seem to know anything about offense. They also traded a linebacker, Kiko Alonso, to the Eagles for one of the top running backs in the league in LeSean McCoy. He didn't want to sign long term, but eventually did. They also signed supreme douchebag, Richie Incognito one year after his suspension for bullying. Like I said, a bizarre offseason. The Bills, I think, will look like the same team they did last season. They'll have a good running game, a good defense and no passing game whatsoever. They have no capable QB's on their roster and, with the exception of Sammy Watkins, no threats at receiver. I say 8 or 9 wins for the Bills. The Miami Dolphins made the biggest splash in free agency by bringing in Ndomakong Suh. They gave him a HUGE contract, but the guy is the best interior defensive lineman in the league. On offense they will look much the same, led by Ryan Tannehill at quarterback. They seem like a team on the rise and I think they're New England's biggest threat in the East. They could easily win 10,11 or even 12 games this year and possibly win the division. The New York Jets are a complete mess. First of all, their best defensive player, Sheldon Richardson, decided to drive his car 143 mph on the highway, and to top it off, he had guns in that car. He may never play football again. Next, a back up linebacker sucker punched starting QB Geno Smith in the jaw over what appears to be a $600 debt and he's out, at least 6-10 weeks. They have no real running game, the QB situation will be taken over by Ryan Fitzpatrick, and their defense, while solid, is only getting older, and they don't have Richardson clogging up the middle. I'd be surprised if they won 6 games this year. This brings me to the defending champions, New England Patriots. They've had an odd offseason as well. The main thing being the stupid non story of "deflategate". Another huge error in judgement from the moronic Roger Goodell. Tom Brady is supposed to miss the first four games of the season, we'll see if that holds up, and I think this will hurt the Patriots more than most. Jimmy Garroppolo may be good in a few years, but he's not ready. The Patriots do have a good running game and you can line up Rob Gronkowski against almost anyone and I'd take him, but their defense is suspect and can lose games for them. Darelle Revis also left to sign with the Jets this offseason, and that will sting. I still see the Patriots winning 10 or 11 games if Brady only misses 1 or 2 games. If he misses all four, they're more like an 8 or 9 win team to me. For that reason alone, I'm picking the Miami Dolphins to win the AFC East.

Next, The AFC North. In the North we have, the Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns. The Ravens are a decent football team. They have a great defense, they always do, and are led on offense by Joe Flacco. That's a good and a bad thing. When he's good, he can be great, but when he's bad, he's really bad. One week he will throw for 350 yards and five touchdowns, but the next week, he'll go for less than 100 yards and 3 or 4 interceptions. But, the Ravens find ways to win 10 games every year and I don't see that changing this season. The Pittsburgh Steelers have to deal with a suspension to running back LeVeon Bell, only two games, but it will still hurt. They still have Ben Roesthliberger at QB, but he's old and, while never the fastest guy out there, seems to get slower every season. Antonio Brown is a great receiver, one of the best in the league, and will stretch the field on defenses all season. The Steelers should be good for 9 to 11 wins this season. The Cincinnati Bengals are a very predictable team. They will look very good at times. Andy Dalton will be a decent QB, but make his typical mistakes. AJ Green is an electric receiver and catches some of the worst throws in the NFL and Giovanni Bernard is going to be a star. Their defense is worrisome. They got older and their big off season acquisition of AJ Hawk doesn't make them any better. He's old and the rest of that defense is getting older. They will be good for 10 or 11 wins and probably crap out in the first round of the playoffs again. Last, and certainly least, is the Cleveland Browns. They're a joke of a franchise and be it Johnny Manziel(please God no!) or Josh McCown at QB, it doesn't matter, the Browns stink. They have no receivers, no real running game, and stink on defense. If they win 5 games I will be shocked. This division will be tough, minus the Browns, but this seems to be Pittsburgh's last shot and I think they win 11 games and the division.

Next we have the AFC South. This is a division with one, maybe two real teams, but really, the South is owned by the Indianapolis Colts. Their only real threat in the Houston Texans, and that's a reach. There's also the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Tennessee Titans. The Jaguars upgraded their offense by signing Julius Thomas, but Blake Bortles needs at least one more season to get his feet wet and the defense isn't ready yet. It will be another 4 or 5 win season for the Jaguars. The Titans are being led by a rookie QB in Marcus Mariota, and while he may be good, when your team is being led by a rookie, with no weapons on offense around him, it's going to be a long, tough season. Their defense is pretty awful as well. They'd be lucky to win 3 or 4 games this year. The Texans have one of the best defenses in the league, led by all world defensive end JJ Watt. They are pretty stout on the line, have good linebackers and a pretty decent secondary. Offense is where the problem lies. They do have a good running back in Arian Foster, when he's not hurt, and a great up and coming receiver in DeAndre Hopkins, but who's going to be the QB? Ryan Mallet or Brian Hoyer are the two choices, and I don't think either of them have played, or are good enough to win in this league. The Texans will be better, but anything more than 9 wins would be surprising. The Colts are the class of the division. They have an explosive offense led by Andrew Luck. They have receivers like TY Hilton and signed Andre Johnson this offseason. They do a running back by committee, but this is a passing offense. Their defense is bend, but don't break and they play it very well. The Colts will win 12 games easily this season and win the AFC South running away.

The final division  is the AFC West. This is another two team division, but can anybody really beat the Denver Broncos. Their only competition will be the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers drafted Melvin Gordon this draft and he will be a big upgrade for them at the running back position. They just locked down Phillip Rivers to a long term deal and he is a great QB in this league. Their defense in just okay. They will win at least 10 games this season, but the 4 game suspension to Antonio Gates will hurt their passing game. The Broncos are led by Peyton Manning. He's one of the best QB's of all time and he continues to churn out 4,000 yard and 35 touchdown seasons. Montee Ball should bounce back after an injury plagued, subpar season. While they lost Julius Thomas, they still have Demayrius Thomas and a bunch of other great receivers. The defense is led by Von Miller, and they are stout in all three phases of defense. Hiring Gary Kubiak won't change this team much at all. They should be a 12 or 13 win team again. The other two teams in the division are the Kansas City Chiefs and the Oakland Raiders. The Chiefs are competitive, but they are pretty stale. Alex Smith is not a great QB, they don't score with their passing game, and there's only so much Jamal Charles can do. Their defense is okay, but not great. 8 or 9 wins is their best possible outcome. The Raiders are still a joke, but they seem like they're trying to get better. Derek Carr could still be a good QB and drafting Amari Cooper and signing Michael Crabtree will help. The running game is still a work in progress. The defense is not that good and that will keep them back. But, linebacker Khalil Mack is going to be a star in this league. 5 or 6 wins would be a good season for the Raiders. The Broncos will continue to win this conference as long as Peyton Manning is the QB.

So, the four division winners, the Dolphins, the Steelers, the Colts and the Broncos will all be in the playoffs and the two wild cards will be, the Chargers and the Patriots. The Bengals and Ravens will get shut out. The Colts and Broncos will have the first round byes. The Chargers will beat the Dolphins and the Steelers will beat the Patriots. In the next round, The Colts will beat the Chargers and the Broncos will beat the Steelers. In the AFC Championship, the Colts will beat the Broncos and find themselves in the Super Bowl.
